Harts Middle sweeps past Man Middle

MAN — The Harts Middle School boys’ basketball team moved its record to 12-1 on the season with Tuesday night’s 47-33 Black Diamond Conference win at Man Middle.
Harts, the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Black Diamond Tournament and the regular season champs, trailed 7-4 after one quarter but held a 15-7 edge in the second to grab a 19-14 halftime lead. A 16-9 fourth then made it a 35-23 ballgame after three. The Lions then outscored the Pioneers 12-10 in the fourth quarter to set the score.
Drew Williamson led Harts with 24 points. He was 2-for-5 from 3-point range.
Williamson also finished with seven rebounds and six steals. Carson Toney had four boards.
C.J. Dalton had 12 points, Kyle Browning had nine and Hunter Brumfield two.
Tyler Elkins led Man Middle with 10 points. Hunter Epperheart and Michael Sorrell had six points apiece. Trey Whitt and Zach Cook tossed in five points each.
Harts is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday against Madison Middle School in the Little General Stores Shootout at the Charleston Civic Center.
The brackets have also been announced for the upcoming Black Diamond Conference Middle School boys’ basketball tourney.
The 10-team tournament is scheduled to run Feb. 19-27 at George Washington Middle School in Buffalo.
Harts, coached by Odell Dingess, is scheduled to get a first-round bye and open Feb. 21 at 8:30 p.m. against the winner of the Madison Middle vs. Hamlin/Duval game on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m.
In the lower bracket, host George Washington is set to take on Sherman on Feb. 21 at 7 p.m.
In the right half of the bracket, Hamlin or Duval is scheduled to open the tourney against Man Middle School on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. in the GWMS auxilary gym. The winner then takes on No. 2 seed Poca on Feb. 22 at 8 p.m.
In the bottom side of the bracket, No. 3 seed Chapmanville faces off with Van on Feb. 21 at 8:30 p.m.
The Final Four round is set for Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
The two winners are slated to meet in the conference championship game on Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m.
Harts also won the middle school game over Man, 38-14, to give the Lions a sweep over the Pioneers.
Ali Williamson and Kenzie McCann led the Harts girls with 12 and 11 points respectively. Kara Browning pitched in nine. Ronda Watts had four and Allie Farmer two.
Beth Morris had six points to lead Man. Sasha Moody and Brooke Burgess had four points each. Madie Meade had two.
