MAN — The Man High School boys’ basketball team is now on a two-game winning streak with Tuesday night’s border war win over Belfry, Ky., 72-65, at the Man Memorial Fieldhouse.


The Hillbillies, which improved to 10-9 on the season, placed four players in double figures.


“We played hard and had balanced scoring,” Man coach Harvey Arms said. “We got after it and it was a big win for us.”


Kenny Joe Adkins led Man in scoring with 18 points. He also handed out seven assists.


John Thomas Keffer flirted with quadruple-double figures as he had 16 points, seven rebounds, nine assists and seven steals.


Freshman center Daniel Buchanon had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.


Gabby Brown added six points and Erik Files three.


Belfry was led by Garrett Fannin, who netted a game-high 27 points. Cole Bentley had 11 and Nathan Copley had 16, including four 3-pointers. Cameron Caton had six, Trey Price three and Austin Woodum two.


The Pirates led 17-15 after one quarter but were outscored by Man 25-9 in the second as the Billies built a 40-26 halftime lead. Belfry closed the gap to 53-46 after three. Each team tallied 19 points in the fourth period.


Belfry jumped out to an early 9-6 lead on two baskets by Fannin.


Keffer then hit a 3-pointer to knot the game up at 9-9 midway in the first stanza.


Brown then scored on a fast break layup off the glass to give MHS a 13-12 lead.


The Pirates then went on a 5-0 run to take a 17-15 lead after the first quarter of play.


The Billies then had their best quarter of the game outscoring the Pirates 25-9 led by Kenny Joe Adkins with 12 points in the period. Adkins had back-to-back baskets to give the Billies a 25-22 lead at the 4:48 mark.


Jake Adkins hit a jumper to make it 27-22.


Kenny Joe Adkins then hit a 3-ball and then stole the ball and scored on a fast break layup to push the Man lead to 34-24 with 2:04 left.


Buchanan hit two key baskets in the final two minutes of play and Files came off the bench and hit a shot as Man took a 40-26 lead into the locker room.


The Pirates came out in the third quarter and outscored the Billies 20-13 to cut it to 53-46 after the third period of play. Copley and Fannin led the way for the Pirates.


Man battled back and pushed the lead back to 12 points on a 5-0 run to start the fourth period of play.


Jake Adkins hit a 3-pointer and Buchanon added a bucket in the paint to make it 58-46 with 7:25 on the clock.


Fannin added a bucket to make it 58-48.


Jake Adkins hit another 3-point shot, Keny Joe Adkins hit a jumper and layup and Files added a basket to push the Man lead to 67-56 with 4:03 to play in the game, forcing Belfry to call a time out.


Caton and Copley hit baskets as the Pirates cut the Man lead to 69-63 with 55 seconds on the clock.


However, the Billies hit their free throws to come away with the 72-65 win.


Man is slated to travel to Huntington St. Joe on Friday before closing out the regular season at home on Tuesday against county rival Chapmanville.
