CHARLESTON (AP) — Chaunte McDowell scored 23 points and Sydney Nunley had 19 points, 19 rebounds and eight blocked shots to lead Greenbrier East to a 48-38 win over Cabell Midland in the girls Class AAA quarterfinals Wednesday.

Greenbrier East came from seven points down in the third quarter at the Charleston Civic Center. McDowell hit three 3-pointers over a three-minute stretch to put the Spartans ahead 37-35 with 7:23 remaining in the game.

Cabell Midland never got the lead back.

Second-seeded Greenbrier East (24-1) advances to the semifinals for the second time in three years. The Spartans won the 2012 championship but missed the tournament last season.

Sierra Jordan had 10 points and 13 rebounds for seventh-seeded Cabell Midland (18-7), which was in the tournament for the first time since 1998.

Keyser 63,

North Marion 57

CHARLESTON (AP) — Lexi Taylor had 19 points and Keyser scored the final nine points of the game to beat North Marion 63-57 in the girls Class AA quarterfinals Wednesday.

Katie Hoban added 12 points, Katlynn Tichnell and Brooke Staggers scored 11 apiece and Lexi Carr had 10 points for Keyser.

Anna Marie Moscufo led third-seeded North Marion (20-4) with 16 points and freshman Presley Tuttle added 14.

Noca Singleton’s tip-in with 3:04 left in the game put North Marion ahead 57-54, but the Huskies didn’t score again.

Tichnell started the decisive late run for Keyser with a 3-pointer to tie the game. Taylor then sank four free throws and Carr made two from the line to seal the win.

Sixth-seeded Keyser (24-2) is making its first appearance in the tournament.
