Logan High School’s Brynden “Worm” Street has been named to play in the upcoming North-South Basketball Classic this summer.
The game pits the top graduating seniors against each other.
This year’s contest is scheduled to be played on June 20 at the South Charleston Community Center.
Retiring coaches Bill McClanahan of Charleston Catholic and Tom Gutshall of Tucker County will serve as coaches for the game with McClanahan coaching the South team alongside Jim Justice of Greenbrier East. Gutshall will coach the North Bears with Don Bullett of Washington High School.
Heading up the rosters is boys state player of the year Jon Elmore of George Washington, who is bound for Division I VMI.
Greenbrier East’s Rondale Watson (Wake Forest) and Obi Romeo (St. Joseph’s) will also play for the South All-Stars. A trio of first-team all-staters — Nick George and Garret McCarty of Charleston Catholic and Anthony Eades of Class AA state champion Bluefield — are also set to play with Street on the South team.
Austin Canada of Wyoming East and Corey Bowles of Westside are also on the South roster.
The North team is led by Dominique Newman and Kendell Smith of Washington.
Also competing for the North is 6-foot-6 John Riley of Lewis County, who averaged 23.2 points and 12 rebounds as a senior.
The game has a 7:30 p.m. tip time.
The South has dominated the game, which dates back to the 1980s.
