CHAPMANVILLE — After last year’s 12-18 record the Logan High School softball team has to be happy with its start to the 2014 spring campaign.

The Lady Cats are still unbeaten at 8-0 after posting a pair of wins on Saturday at Chapmanville’s Lady Tigers Invitational.

Logan scored a pair of shutout wins as LHS won 9-0 over James Monroe and then took a 5-0 victory over Sissonville.

The Lady Cats went 3-0 in the Chapmanville round-robin tourney, also winning 8-2 last Friday over Nicholas County.

Hannah Kolovich and Summer Collins were each 2-for-2 at the plate with two RBI in the win over James Monroe. Chastidy Wiley, Sam Curry, Taylor Napier and Kiana Hill all singled.

Aarron Ward was the starting and winning pitcher. She went a full five innings and allowed no runs and two hits with five strikeouts and one walk. The game was stopped after five innings due to the mercy rule.

In the Sissonville game, Curry was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI to pace the Lady Cats. Collins, Kolovich, Wiley, Ward, Shelby Hale, Hana Sedlock and Napier all had one hit. Wiley and Ward also drove in one run each.

Sedlock notched the complete game shutout win on the hill as she fanned three and walked none over seven innings. She allowed just two hits.

Logan was scheduled to get back into action on Monday night at Class A county rival Man. LHS then goes to Sherman on Tuesday before hosting Wyoming East on Wednesday. Then on Thursday, Logan hosts Winfield. On Friday, the Lady Cats travel to Point Pleasant.

All games have 5:30 p.m. starting times.

Next week during Spring Break week, Logan has an April 16 contest at home against Class AAA sectional rival Nitro. Logan then is set to play in the Best of the Best Tournament at Buffalo April 17-19.
