Newcomer Tanisha Adams is making waves with the Chapmanville Regional High School track and field team this spring.

At last Friday’s Walt Dryden Sam Lerose and Stan Smith Invitational held by St. Albans High School at Charleston’s Laidley Field, Adams took sixth place out of 46 total girls in the 200-meter dash.

Adams also helped Chapmanville’s girls to fourth-place finishes in the 4x400 and 4x200 relay teams where she ran the second leg.

“Considering that this is only the second meet she has ever participated in and that four of the five girls ahead of her were from Class AAA schools we are very proud of her,” CRHS track coach Joetta Thompson said. “All in all my girls team did very well at the meet. Our team only consisted of seven girls but they even beat my boys team of 15 that night in points.”

Chapmanville’s Christina Osborne once again placed fourth in the 100-meter dash.

“She is hoping to continue to improve that time as we get closer to the conference and regional meets,” Thompson said.

Another newcomer for Chapmanville’s track team is senior Ryder Gore.

“He joined late this year, after running the 5K we hosted on March 22 at Chapmanville. He came in first place at that 5K and some of my team members talked him into trying track. He is loving running and does very well in the distance events,” Coach Thompson said.

Ethan Thompson placed again last week with a fifth-place in the 100 and fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash.

“He is looking good as the season progresses. I have high hopes for him,” Coach Thompson said.

The Chapmanville track team heads back to Laidley after Spring Break for the Capitol City Classic, hosted by Capital High School on April 25.
