CHAPMANVILLE — Back on April 5, the Coalfield Youth Soccer League kicked off its sixth season of soccer at the Mullins Soccer Complex in Chapmanville.
It was a big opening day as more than 1,000 players, coaches and fans were in attendance.
The league is fielding 34 teams this spring, the most ever in the history of the CYSL.
There are 360 players this season, ranging from ages 3-17.
The CYSL has been instrumental in giving kids in Logan County and surrounding areas a chance to play the world’s most popular sport.
The league officials have also been working with the Logan County School Board to assist with getting soccer in Logan County Schools.
Many of the CYSL referees are WVSA trained and several of the coaches and officials have a history of teaching and playing soccer, which would be hard to find in any other local league.
There were several close games on opening day that kept the crowd on their feet.
