Accused burglar caught in councilman's home

MAN — Fast action and cooperation helped nab an accused burglar before he could get away according to local police.

• Mark Allen Hill, 46 of Man, was arrested in Logan County by Sgt. W.D. Walls and Patrolman Michael Vernatter of the Man Police Department for nighttime burglary on Sept. 2. According to police reports on Sept. 2, the officers received a call from an off duty cop about an individual who had allegedly entered into the home of Man Town Councilman Roger Muncy while he was gone.

"Officer Mark Dickerson of the Logan Police Department witnessed the accused enter the residence," the report states. "Officer Dickerson observed the accused going through the cabinet drawers inside the kitchen of Roger Muncy's home. Roger Muncy was unable to be reached and could not give consent for the accused to be inside."

Hill was taken into custody was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 10:05 p.m.

An Ohio man was arrested recently for allegedly stealing a television set.

• Dustin Clay Miller, 27, of Cambridge, Ohio, was arrested in Logan County by Trooper J.K. Harris of the West Virginia State Police for petit larceny, transferring stolen property and possession of a controlled substance on Aug. 30. According to police reports on Aug. 30, the victim reported that Miller allegedly "stole his 48 inch Magnavox television from his residence in McConnell."

"On the above date, this officer attempted to locate the accused at the aforementioned location," the report states. "This officer discovered the accused hiding behind a bedroom door in the back of the residence. Additionally the accused refused to cooperate and continued to resist as this officer attempted to place him in handcuffs. Further investigation revealed several used hypodermic needles/syringes and metal spoons, all of which contained residue from Oxycodone. Statements were also obtained which confirmed the accused had stolen the victim's television and pawned the item at a local pawn shop. "

He was booked at the regional jail at 5:43 p.m.

• Albert Lee Brown, 33, of Switzer, was arrested in Logan County by Deputy Freddie Ferrell of the Logan County Sheriff's Department for fraudulent schemes and probation violation on Aug. 24. According to police reports on July 28, 2009, the victim told the officer that she and the defendant had entered into a written agreement where the defendant would receipt merchandise from the victim's business and the victim would receive partial payment on July 31.

"The defendant received furniture, which was valued at $1,166.00 on July 28, 2009," the report states. "On July 31, 2009, the victim attempted to obtain payment from the bank account given by the defendant. The victim was advised by the defendant's bank that the victim's account was empty."A second criminal complaint states that on July 30, the deputy received a complaint from another local business stating the defendant had also entered a written agreement to receive merchandise and to return with a purchase order and make payment for the merchandise.

"The defendant received the merchandise valued at $1,575.05 but never returned for payment," that report states. "The victim provided copies of all sales receipts and invoices.

He was booked at the regional jail at 11:55 a.m.
