Actress Shawnee Smith is greeted by fans at the Fountain Place Cinema 8 in Logan Saturday night as she makes her entrance for a meet and greet sessions with her fans. Fans packed the Fountain Place Cinema 8 Saturday night to get a glimpse and an autograph from actress Shawnee Smith, who made a stop in Logan to promote her latest movie, “Saw VI”.
Smith arrived at the theater and was given a loud ovation as she walked down th red carpet and into the theater lobby. Hundreds of fans lined up inside and out to meet Smith, who has played Amanda Young in all six “Saw” horror films.
Smith also starred opposite Ted Danson in the TV sitcom “Becker”.
Smith said she was visiting Logan to greet fans of the “Saw” series.
“I haven’t seen the movie because it’s too scary for me,” Smith said, laughing. “I will watch it eventually when I get the DVD, so I can fast-forward through the scary parts.”
Smith said she read the script for the first “Saw” film and her “out-of-control” imagination caused her to have second thoughts about being in the movie.
“I really live it out and I read that scene and I didn’t want to live that out for a day,” she said. “But, I’m glad they convinced me to do it. I did ‘Saw I-III’ and this is the first new footage I’ve filmed since ‘Saw III’. This is new stuff and it’s amazing new pieces to Amanda’s puzzle, for sure.
“The unique part of the franchise is that they approach it as a puzzle so you can put in any piece and jump around in the timeline and keep filling it out and filling it out. So, it’s pretty cool to be one of the few characters that keep getting filled out.”
Smith said she things “Saw” fans will like the new movie.
“If you’re a fan of the scary, horror movie, then this is one of the better series you can go out and see,” Smith said. “I will definitely watch it, eventually. I’ve seen ‘Saw I-III’ and they are very disturbing.”
Smith said she loved visiting West Virginia.
“It’s so beautiful,” she said. “It takes my breath away. Everybody is so nice and it’s good to get out of Los Angeles, where everyone is so jaded. I’m from South Carolina and it’s refreshing to come to West Virginia.”
Smith was greeted by hundreds of fans cheering as she entered the theater on the red carpet. Logan City Patrolman Mark Dickerson escorted Smith from her hotel to the theater. Numerous fans waited for more than an hour to get to meet Smith and to get an autograph.
Following her two-hour autograph session, Smith traveled to Ripley to perform with her alt-country band, Smith & Pyle, at the Fairplain Yacht Club.
Smith is currently on tour in West Virginia performing with as part of Smith and Pyle, with actress Missi Pyle.
The duo will perform tomorrow night in South Charleston at the Quaker Steak and Lube restaurant at the South Ridge shopping plaza.
The concert is set to begin at 8 p.m.
Smith & Pyle will also perform Thursday night at the Blackhawk Saloon in Charleston, at Halftime in Point Pleasant on Friday and at Tomahawks Saloon in St. Albans on Saturday night.
Smith’s appearances and concerts in West Virginia are being sponsored by Collectibles, Etc., in the Charleston Town Center Mall in conjunction with One Man Wolfpack Productions, Rock 105 and The Mix 100.9.
