A coal miner was killed Friday morning in an accident at the Coal River Energy mine No. 10 in Boone County.

Officials are not releasing many details about the accident that happened around 4 a.m. Friday morning, July 27, 2012.

“We just got a call that they needed an ambulance there,” one emergency official said.

Company officials said the miner was 35-years-old with one year of experience. They would not release his name or details citing an ongoing investigation into the accident.

The accident happened on the day the UBB Memorial will have its dedication ceremony in Whitesville. The memorial was constructed to remember The Upper Big Branch Mine disaster that occurred on April 5, 2010, and killed 29 miners.

The ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, July 27, 2012.
