CMS football wins 26-0 at Sherman

SETH - It was a shutout victory for the Chapmanville Middle School football team on Thursday night as the Tigers won 26-0 at Sherman.

CMS made it 6-0 at the 4:21 mark of the first quarter with Joe Canterbury's 1-yard touchdown run.

With 5:15 to go until the half, Chapmanville increased its lead to 12-0 with a 1-yard TD run by Trevor Payne.

The game stayed that way until 3:51 left in the contest when Payne ran for a 16-yard touchdown and Dustin Smith passed to Brady Cox on the two-point conversion to make it 20-0 Tigers.

CMS scored once more at the 2:27 mark as Cox recovered a Sherman fumble in the end zone.

Payne rushed 16 times for 107 yards for the game. Canterbury had eight rushes for 25 yards. Brandon White had four rushes for 40 yards.

Smith led the Chapmanville defense with eight solo tackles, one assist and one recovered on-side kick. Payne had six tackles, two assists and one fumble recovery. Louie Mullins contributed five solos and one assist.

Waylon Dingess had four tackles for the game. Cameron Neace had three solos and one assist, while David Cavins and Shane Adkins had three stops each.

Brandon White had two solos, one assist and one interception.

Joe Canterbury, Brent Bigley and Zach Bailey all had two tackles. Bailey also had an assist.

Cox had one solo tackle and one assist.

Alex Maynard had one assisted tackle.

CMS was penalized six times for 60 yards. Sherman had two flags for 10 yards.

Logan 26, Ravenswood 14

The Logan Middle School football team evened its record to 2-2 on the season with Thursday night's 26-14 home win over Ravenswood.

Kahleel Reynolds had eight rushes for 88 yards and scored on a TD run of 56 yards. He also caught a 72-yard touchdown pass from Dalton and fired a 66-yard TD pass to Brandon Horne. Reynolds was 2-for-4 passing.

Kade Doss had six rushes for 19 yards and scored on a 1-yard touchdown run.

Dalton had two rushes for 67 yards, caught one pass for eight yards and was 1-for-3 for 66 yards through the air.

Tyler Vernatter and Chris Marcum had seven tackles each for the Timberwolves. Vernatter also forced a fumble.

Raheem Norman had six tackles, while Austin Deer and Dalton had five stops each.

Ryan Blackburn, Doss, Horne and Preston Hepler all had four tackles each.

Brian Ball, Brynden Street and Clayton Marcum had three stops each.

Reynolds had two tackles and one interception.

Trevor Stollings and Chad Bradford had two tackles each.

"We played well," LMS coach Jason Davis said. "We stepped up and bounced back from last week. It's good to have two wins."

LMS lost 30-8 last week at home to Winfield. The only Logan touchdown of the night was a 36-yard pass from Dalton to Reynolds.

The T-Wolves play at Poca next Thursday night. Game time is 7 p.m.
