CMS, Logan Middle girls pick up wins

The Chapmanville Middle School girls’ basketball team walked away with a 53-28 win over Sherman on Monday night at home.

The Lady Tigers used a blistering fast break offense to outgun a much bigger Sherman squad.

Lexi Martin led Chapmanville with 18 points. Hollie Carter had 13 while Abigail Marcum also reached double digits in scoring with 12 points.

Richelle Thompson had six and Taylor Manns four.

“We started slow, but their size hurt us on the boards,” CMS coach Tommy Kirk said. “We finally got our running game going and took control of the game.”

In the JV game, Chapmanville rolled to an easy 25-2 victory over the Tide.

Reese Ellis had six points to lead the Lady Tigers. Reese Ellis had six and Jacy Baxter four. Nadia Perry, Beth Ball, Kaylee Blair, Haven Adkins, Tabitha Adkins, Madison Webb and Chloe Sweeney all had two points each for CMS. Kelsey Shadd had one point.

Next up for the Lady Tigers is a Thursday game against Van.

Logan 45,

Lenore 24

It was a winning start to the season last week for the Logan Middle School girls’ basketball team, which won 45-24 over the Lenore Rangers.

Logan was led by Tomi Nelson with 12 points.

Beth Adkins and Lexi Hines each netted 10, while Chelsea Napier had five points.

It was a double win for the Lady Wolves as the LMS girls’ JV team was also a 37-17 winner over Lenore. LMS was led in scoring by Britney Welch with seven points. Zoe Browning and Stephanie Eplin each had six.

Logan is scheduled to play host to Cardinal Conference opponent Ripley Middle School on Wednesday night.

BOYS

Harts 52, Man 26

The Harts Middle School boys’ basketball team breezed to a 52-26 win at home over Man on Monday night.

Drew Williamson paced Harts with 19 points. Kyle Browning reached double digits as well with 16 points. Ty Sturm had six, C.J. Dalton four and Caleb Ellis three. Hunter Brumfield and Trinity Maynard tossed in two each.

Daniel Buchanan led Man with 11 points. Tyler Grimmett had six and John McCoy four. Cameron Simpson and Mike Sorrell had two apiece. Jackson Porter chipped in with one point.

Harts (3-0) opened the season Nov. 29 with a 49-21 win at Duval. The Lions then won 54-36 on Dec. 6 at Sherman.

You failed to mention the Harts Lions girls won at Duval, Sherman and their home game against Man.
