Alyssa Bailey

Valedictorian

CHAPMANVILLE — Chapmanville Regional High School will hold their commencement ceremony at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 24, for more than 140 students, including 13 Valedictorians, one Salutatorian and one Honorarian.

Valedictorians

Alyssa Rachelle Bailey, the daughter of Russell and Regenia Bailey, is from Harts. Alyssa’s achievements include Valedictorian (GPA 4.15686), first team all Cardinal Conference softball and volleyball, second team all state softball, and special honorable mention all state volleyball team. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Friends of Rachel, and Eagle’s Nest. Her hobbies include sports, traveling, shopping, watching movies, and spending time with family and friends. Her future plans are attending Marshall University in the fall and pursuing a career in Speech Pathology.

Kylie Shaianne Clay, the daughter of Robin and Roger Wolfe and Wayne Clay, is from Chapmanville. Kylie’s achievements include Valedictorian (GPA 4.03774), going to states in tennis back to back, 9th grade Spanish II Award, 10th grade Biology Award and Algebra II award, and 11th grade U.S. History Award. She is a member of Friends of Rachel, Key Club, Eagle’s Nest, National Honor Society, volleyball team, tennis team, Relay for Life and Chapmanville United Baptist Church. Her hobbies are playing tennis, reading, spending time with friends, family and her boyfriend, watching movies, and being outside. Her future plans are attending Alice Lloyd majoring in Elementary Education and specializing in Special Education.

Seth Jordan Deskins, the son of David and Cheryl Deskins, is from Chapmanville. Seth’s achievements include Valedictorian (4.13725) and going to states in tennis. He is a member of the National Honor Society, tennis team, Key Club, youth group, and food pantry volunteer work. His hobbies include motorcycle riding, hunting, fishing, classic cars, basketball, and tennis. His future plans are attending the University of Charleston to major in Bio/Chemistry and possibly medical school.

Cody Dwayne Dingess is from Chapmanville. Some of his achievements include Valedictorian, (GPA 4.15094) Math Field Day winner, WV Engineering, Science and Technology Scholarship recipient and PROMISE Scholarship recipient. He is a member of Eagle’s Nest and the National Honor Society. His hobbies are fishing and riding dirt bikes. His future plans are to achieve his degree in Biochemistry at WVU and to further his education by enrolling in Medical School.

Lowell Midkiff III, the son of Deloris J. Midkiff and Lowell Midkiff Jr., is from Harts. Lowell’s achievements include Valedictorian (GPA 4.04082) and senior class president. He is a member of the National Honor Society, tennis team, Eagle’s Nest and Fountain of Life Church and a volunteer at Logan Seventh-day Adventist Church Food Pantry. His hobbies include cars, playing tennis, traveling, and cooking. His future plans are to attend Marshall University and major in Athletic Training-Pre Physician Assistant and then attend the University of Charleston’s Physician Assistant School. He plans to work in a family practice somewhere near Charleston.

Katherine Grace Murray, the daughter of Estel and Kelly Murray, is from Chapmanville. Katherine’s achievements include Valedictorian (4.11321), senior class officer, vice president of the CIA group in Friends of Rachel, and Key Club Web Master. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, Friends of Rachel, Eagle’s Nes and Chapmanville United Baptist Church. Her hobbies include reading, archery, spending time with her family and friends, and being involved with her youth group. Her future plans are attending Alice Lloyd to major in English Education. Once she has her degree she hopes to return to Chapmanville Regional High School to teach.

Emily Kristin Stroud, the daughter of Eva Marcum and Dwayne Stroud, is from Chapmanville. Emily’s achievements include Valedictorian (GPA 4.01961), all-state choir, all-county choir, honor choir, class officer, and homecoming attendant. She is a member of chamber choir, National Honor Society, cheerleading team, tennis team, and school choir. Her hobbies include singing in church and outdoor activities. Her future plans are attending Marshall University to major in Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine.

Alexandria Kayrenda Carter, the daughter of John and Laura Carter, is from Chapmanville. Alexandria’s achievements include Valedictorian (GPA 4.03922), going to states in tennis, Friends of Rachel CIA President, senior class secretary, University of Charleston Welch Colleague Scholarship recipient, and Key Club Bulletin Editor. She is a member of the tennis team, National Honors Society, Morning Star Freewill Baptist, and Key Club. She enjoys writing, reading, photography, and tennis. Her future plans are to attend the University of Charleston to study Biology/Chemistry.

Matthew Tyler Cook, the son of Mike and Sherry Cook, is from Ranger. Matthew is a Valedictorian (GPA 4.03922). He is a member of the basketball team, Harts Baptist Church, and National Honor Society and helps with Harts Buddy League Basketball. His hobbies include basketball, hunting, fishing, outdoor archery, and paintball. His future plans are attending WV Tech to major in Electrical Engineering.

Eli Thomas DesRocher, the son of Kent and Cathy DesRocher, is from Chapmanville. Eli’s achievements include Valedictorian (GPA 4.17647), vice president of the Honor Society, vice president of the senior class, Welch Colleague Scholarship for the University of Charleston, WSAZ Best of the Class 2012, and past Golden Horseshoe winner. He is part of the Friends of Rachel, Eagle’s Nest, National Honor Society, and the tennis team. His hobbies include hunting, fishing, riding four wheelers, working on his garden, being outside, and being with friends. His future plans are to attend the University of Charleston and his major is undecided.

Lonnie Kent Lucas, the son of Lonnie and Amy Lucas, is from Chapmanville. Lonnie’s achievements include Valedictorian (GPA 4.05882) and Key Club President. He is a member of the Key Club and National Honor Society. His hobbies are reading, hiking, video games, ATV riding, hunting fishing, and archery. His future plans are to attend Marshall University and go on to Medical School. After that he will go to Surgical School to hopefully become a Plastic Surgeon.

Zachary Ryan Miller, the son of Leah and Chris Miller, is from Lake. Zachary’s achievements include Valedictorian (GPA 4.03774), acceptance into the United States Achievement Academy Scholarship Foundation Awards Program, Pre-Cal/Trig Award 2010-2011, Biology Award 2010-2011, World History Award 2009-2010, and Physical Science Award 2009-2010. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish club, and Eagle’s Nest and an active member of Lake Holiness Church. His hobbies include playing games, hunting, fishing, riding four wheelers, and watching TV. His future plans are to become a registered nurse and pursue his Masters Degree as a nurse practitioner.

Hannah Elizabeth Sabo, the daughter of Christine and Toby Sabo, is from Chapmanville. Hannah is a Valedictorian (GPA 4.00000). She is a member of the National Honor Society, Prayer Club, Key club (9th grade), volleyball (9th-11th), and tennis (9th-11th). Her hobbies include church, listening to music, sports, and hanging with friends and family. Her future plans are to attend Southern and major in Allied Health as either a dental hygienist or a surgical technician.

Honorarian

Andrea Tinille Meeks, the daughter of Margaret and Ricky Meeks, is from Harts. Andrea is the Honorarian (GPA 3.96226). She is a member of National Honor Society and Eagle’s Nest. Her hobbies include running. Her future plans are to attend the RN program at Southern and to graduate there with an Associates Degree.

Salutatorian

William Franklin Fowler III, the son of William F. Fowler and Amy H. Fowler, is from Chapmanville. William is the Salutatorian (GPA 3.98039). He is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish club. His hobbies are hunting and fishing. His future plans are to study in the medical field in hopes that he will complete a course and obtain a job in his field of study within four years.

Again, commencement will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 24, in the Chapmanville Regional High School gym. For persons wishing to attend, there will be shuttle buses running from Chapmanville Middle to Chapmanville Regional. Shuttle buses will begin running at 4:30 p.m. and will run again after the ceremony.
