What a difference a year makes.

Last year, the Logan High School football team was 0-4 heading into its county clash with the Chapmanville Tigers. The Wildcats beat the Tigers 14-7 and finished a disappointing 2006 season with a 4-6 mark.

This year? Strike that. Reverse that. Logan is 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the Cardinal Conference and ranked No. 5 in the state in Class AA. Chapmanville is 2-2, 0-2 and rated 18th in the state

Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at Chapmanville’s Tiger Stadium. It will also be the annual homecoming game for the Tigers.

Logan coach Gary Mullins said his team is happy to be in a reversal of fortunes.

“We were 0-4 last year at this time,” Mullins said. “It’s a major turnaround and we want to play Friday night like we’re 0-3 and come out with the fire and intensity that we haven’t won any games. We want to come out and play hard.”

Coupled with Logan’s season-opening 33-14 victory over county rival Man, the Wildcats can take the county championship with a win over Chapmanville. CHS can win it, too, with a victory over the Wildcats and a win later in the season over the Man Hillbillies.

“There’s another motivating factor for us and that is we’re playing for the county championship,” Mullins said. “We win this one and we’re the county champion. That’s a big deal
