HENLAWSON — On September 24, 2009, Trinity Healthcare Services of Logan celebrated the 100th birthday of Mrs. Corna Evans. You would not know it by just looking at Corna, buy she is the oldest resident of Trinity Healthcare Nursing Home. She was presented with a beautiful bouquet of pink roses by the administrator, Mark Noe. Since she loves candy, she also received a box of chocolate creamed candies. The flowers were a special gift from Family Discount Pharmacy of Stollings
She received special proclamations from West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin, West Virginia Senate and The Honorable Earl Ray Tomblin, and the Logan County Commission. She also received a personal letter from NBC Television personality Willard Scott. She knew she was in a special league when she got the letter from Mr. Scott.
She was surrounded by family, friends and Trinity Staff. Corna's family provided her with a beautiful cake.
This was the second celebration for Mrs. Evans. Her family also celebrated with her on Sept. 4 during their family reunion.
Mrs. Evans is the daughter of Greenwood and Myrtle Bench Mullins. She was married to Edward Evans and they lived many years in Lincoln County and at 22 Holden. Mrs. Evans eventually moved to live with her son, Billy, in Delbarton. She has four children, all deceased: Buddy, Phyllis, Billy and Tootsie. She has a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
"Mrs. Evans has a wonderful sense of purpose and balance with life," said Rev. Rex Thompson. "She will quickly tell you she is the most blessed person in the world."
