Chapmanville High School graduate Kenneth Ray Zigmond has been named to the newest West Virginia Tech Athletic Hall of Fame Class.

Zigmond, a WVU Tech baseball player in the late 1960s and early 1970s, will be inducted with the 2012 Hall of Fame class on Friday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. at the WVU Tech Center Ballroom.

The other inductees include: John B. “Mike” Bell (basketball, 1960); Rodney “Pete” Cosby (football, 1985); Don Davis (basketball, 1960); Ken Dillo (basketball, 1964); and Donald “Don” Thompson (basketball, 1956).

Zigmond, a 1972 WVU Tech graduate, was born in Logan in 1946.

Zigmond graduated from Chapmanville High School in 1964.

He joined WVU Tech as a member of the Golden Bear baseball team.

As a shortstop, he was a four-year starter concluding his career in 1971 with a overall batting average of .390.

Under his leadership, the team was the two-time Southern Division champion.

As a senior, Zigmond had the second highest batting average in the conference at .415 and slugging percentage at .736.

In 1971, he was named to the WVIAC All-Conference Team and was a member of the NAIA Division TOPPS all-star team.

Zigmond received an associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering Technology in 1970 and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1972.

In his professional career, Zigmond worked as the Vice President of Operations at National Cable Repair from 1972 until 1995.

In 1995, he became the Vice President of the Southern Equipment Company until his retirement in June 2012.

Zigmond served two terms as a member of the Logan County BOE and was President of the BOE for four years.

In 2004, he was inducted into the Chapmanville High School Hall of Fame.

Zigmond and his wife Wilma have two children, Kendra Schilling and Kenneth Ray Zigmond II, four grandchildren, Kenlie, Kallie, Kennedy, and Sydney, and reside in Logan.

Dillo, one of the other WVU Tech Hall of Fame inductees this year, hails from nearby Pineville and graduate from Oceana High School in 1960.

Dillo was a member of the WVU Tech basketball team where he played guard and forward.

During the 1961-62 season, the team went 23-11 with Dillo averaging 11.1 points per game. He was selected to the Second Team All Tournament at the Rochester Invitational where he made the game winning free throws in a 21-19 overtime win against Illinois Tech.

During his junior season (1962-63), the team accumulated a 23-9 record winning the WVIAC tournament.

During his senior season, Dillo served as co-captain for the team that went 21-2 for the season. His teammates, including Mike Barrett and Herb Carpenter, went on to lose a double overtime thriller against Morris Harvey in the NAIA Regional Championship.

He was also a member of the golf team for two seasons.
