The Chapmanville 11-12-year-old Little League All-Star baseball team advanced to the state semifinals with a thrilling 7-6, seven-inning victory over Beckley at Martinsburg’s Oatsdale Park.

Chapmanville, which improved to 3-1 in the state tourney, won the game in extra innings as leadoff batter Noah Dingess laced a walk-off, bases loaded RBI single to win it.

Chapmanville trailed 6-5 heading into the frame but scored two runs to move on to Wednesday’s state semifinals where it will play Shinnston (4-0) at 7:30 p.m. Chapmanville tied it in the seventh with a bases loaded RBI single by Devin Hensley.

Dylan Brown was 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of bunt singles and an RBI for Chapmanville. Evan Willis added an RBI single and Adam Vance and Josh Zigmond also had hits.

Beckley led 2-0 with two runs in the top of the first inning but Chapmanville answered with a five spot in last half of the frame aided by four walks, three Beckley errors and a hit batter. Brown’s bases loaded RBI bunt single made it 4-2 Chapmanville.

Beckley then rallied in the fourth with four runs. The big blow was Bradley Pack’s three-run homer to right which put his team up 6-5.

But then it was Chapmanville’s Willis who tied the game 6-6 with a two-out, run-scoring single in the bottom of the fifth.

Chapmanville had a chance to win it in the bottom of the sixth as Dingess tried to score on Zigmond’s base hit but the catcher was tagged out sliding at the plate.

Austin Bledsoe was the winning pitcher in relief for Chapmanville. Conner Mullins was the starter.

Beckley used four pitchers. Michael Maolo was most effective as he fired 5.1 innings of relief, striking out 11, walking six and allowing no runs and three hits. Jackson Hill was tagged with the loss in relief as he came on for Maolo in the sixth.

Shinnston moved on to the semifinals with a 6-2 win over St. Albans. The other state semifinal on Wednesday pits Barboursville and Bridgeport at 5 p.m. Barboursville won 13-7 over Braxton County in the quarterfinals.

The winners of the two state semifinals are set to meet on Thursday night in the state championship game with the winner moving on to play in the South Regionals in Georgia.

Bridgeport 9,

Chapmanville 1

Despite a 9-1 pool play loss to Bridgeport on Monday afternoon, the Chapmanville 11-12-year-old Little League baseball all-stars advanced to Tuesday’s state quarterfinals at Martinsburg.

Chapmanville finished 2-1 in Pool A play, while Bridgeport won the pool with a 3-0 mark.

Josh Zigmond supplied Chapmanville’s only run and hit of the game against Bridgeport with a solo homer in the fourth inning.

Bridgeport, which hammered out 10 hits against four Chapmanville pitchers, scored five runs in the second, three in the third and one more in the fifth.

Conner Mullins started on the hill for Chapmanville and was relieved by Adam Vance in the first, left-hander Devin Hensley in the second and Dylan Brown in the third.

Toby Keefer was the starting and winning pitcher for Bridgeport. Mason Williams came on in the third, Chafin Murphy in the fifth and Cooper Hindman in the sixth.

Seth Freel was 3-for-4 to lead Bridgeport at the plate. Noah Drummond was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles. Hindman was 2-for-2 with a two-run double. Williams added a two-run double.

Chapmanville 4,

Lavalette 1

With a 4-1 pool play win over Lavalette on Sunday afternoon at Martinsburg’s Oatsdale Park, the Chapmanville 11-12-year-old Little League All-Stars advanced to the state tournament quarterfinals.

Chapmanville improved to 2-0 in the state tourney.

Last year, Chapmanville was 0-3 in the state tournament at Beckley.

Ross Adkins was the starting and winning pitcher for Chapmanville against Lavalette, which dropped to 0-2. Adkins went 2.2 innings and allowed one run and one hit with five strikeouts and three walks. Austin Bledsoe then pitched the next 2.1 innings, yielding no runs and one hit with six strikeouts and one walk. Conner Mullins then got the last three outs, fanning all three, as Chapmanville finished off the win.

Adkins was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate for Chapmanville.

Josh Zigmond hit a solo homer and was 2-for-3. Bledsoe and Devin Hensley also singled for Chapmanville.

Chapmanville made it 1-0 in the first inning as Noah Dingess led off with a walk and later scored on an error.

Zigmond’s solo shot in the third made it 2-0.

Lavalette cut it to 2-1 in the bottom of the third as Timmy Stollings walked and came around on a pair of wild pitches.

Chapmanville then added two more runs in the fifth to finish off the scoring. Zigmond singled and Adkins followed with another single. Both then scored on a same play with the help of two Lavalette errors.

Austin McCloud was the starting and losing pitcher for Lavalette. He struck out six and walked on over 4.1 innings but gave up four runs and seven hits. Tanner Hamilton then came on in relief in the fifth inning.

Chapmanville 3,

Bi-State 2

The Chapmanville 11-12-year-old Little League All-Stars scored a thrilling 3-2 win over Bi-State on Saturday evening in the Little League State Tournament opener at Martinsburg.

Chapmanville trailed 2-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning but plated two runs to win it.

Noah Dingess got it started with a single. He took second on a Bi-State error. Josh Zigmond then singled to put runners at the corners.

Ross Adkins then delivered an RBI single to tie the game up 2-2. Adkins finished the game 2-for-3.

Chapmanville’s Adam Vance then came up with the game winner on an RBI single to right field.

Adkins was the winning pitcher in relief for Chapmanville. He relieved starter Zigmond in the top of the sixth inning and pitched 1/3 of an inning with one walk. Zigmond went 5.2 innings, allowing two runs and three hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

Bi-State’s four pitchers combined to strike out 18 Chapmanville batters.

Braden Polling started on the hill for Bi-State, firing 3.2 innings and striking out all 11 batters he faced. Bi-State’s manager, however, elected to take him out of the game in favor of Caleb Hare due to pitch count rules.

Chapmanville was able to score a run off Hare in the bottom of the fifth as Adkins singled, took second on a wild pitch and scored on an error to make it 1-1.

Polling’s solo homer in the top of the fourth made it 1-0 Bi-State.

Bi-State then went ahead 2-1 in the sixth as Polling reached base safely on a fielder’s choice and then came around on three wild pitches.
