VAN — The Chapmanville Middle School basketball teams hit the road on Monday and swept Van in the season openers for both the boys’ and girls’ teams.
The CMS girls beat the Lady Bulldogs, 35-9, while the Chapmanville boys were a 63-9 winner.
In the girls’ game, Kristin Desrocher led the Lady Tigers with 17 points.
Savanna Vance had five, while Tabitha Craddock and Mackenzie Moran chipped in with four points each.
Tiara Pridemore and Haley Bumgarner had two each, while Hope Kirk had one point.
“We did some good things and we did some not so good things. We missed too many fast break chances but we’ll get better,” CMS coach Tommy Kirk said.
In the boys’ game, Nick Brumfield paced Chapmanville with a 17-point effort.
Chance Gore and Gabe Maynard each had eight points, while Max Spradlin had seven and William Copley and Trey Dalton had four apiece. Jonathan Williamson had three points. Kenny Plumley, Devin Wiley, Matt Chapman and Diddy Podunavac all had two each.
“We played pretty good but we have some ways to go. We want to get better every day,” Coach Kirk said.
LMS girls 2-0
The Logan Middle School girls’ basketball team is 2-0 to start the season after winning a pair of games last week.
LMS won 50-15 over Williamson and 43-31 over Hurricane.
In the win over Williamson Shayna Gore led the Lady Wolves with 18 points.
Montana Russell had six points, while Kristin Dempsey had four.
Lauren Chambers, Katelyn Grimmett, Adriana Herrera and Olivia Ooten all had three points each.
Betsy Lukacs, Aarron Ward, Hannah Kolovich, Keisha Perry and Summer Collins had two points each.
Taia Sexton and Kristen Johnson led Williamson as each tossed in six points.
In the victory over Hurricane last week at home, LMS got 22 from Gore and 11 from Hannah Adkins.
Chambers added five points, Lukacs three and Russell two.
Tori Dent led Hurricane with eight points.
LMS was scheduled to play at Winfield on Tuesday night.
