PINEVILLE — Cliffs Natural Resources’ Lower War Eagle Mine in Wyoming County has received a Joseph A. Holmes Safety Association Award.

The Holmes Safety Association Awards are presented to qualifying operations within the industry and are determined by safety and accident performance. The Lower War Eagle mine was selected for the small underground mine division while completing 28,845 hours worked without a lost time accident.

“Safety is the number one core value at Cliffs,” said Tom Smith, general manager of Cliffs Logan County Coal. “I am proud of what our employees accomplished. This award recognizes the smart and safe ways our employees perform their duties and shows the effectiveness our training and safety programs.
