CHARLESTON — For the 3rd year in a row Logan’s Dance Studio students has won The Funeral Parade Contest in the Kanawha Valley.

Stephanie Thornhill, Amanda Whitman and Melissa Thornhill were presented the Mardi Gras Casino award and trophy for best group costume at the South Charleston Funeral Parade.

The girls were asked to lead the parade, which is a Mardi Gras style costume party/parade with jazz bands, hearses and lots of beads.

Because of their beautiful costumes, which was a combined effort made between Dena Wigal, owner of the Dance Studio, and the girls, the trio took the stage during the whole awards ceremony.

Kaitlin Dunn of Chapmanville won the prize for best female costume in Charleston’s 2011 annual funeral parade. Wigal won the 2010 award for her showgirl skeleton costume that she designed and made.

“Once part of the now defunct Charleston Stern Wheel Regatta, the parade took on a life of its own after the Regatta ended,” said Wigal. “This is the third year in a row that Logan countians have won a costume prize out of hundreds of participants from around the country.”
