MAN — The discovery of additional asbestos has brought demolition work at the old Man Hospital site to a stop.

Demolition on the building began early this spring following the completion of asbestos removal throughout the building. Demolition was halted again after demolition crews found more asbestos.

“Rocky Adkins of the Logan County Development Authority, the Logan County Commission and Governor Tomblin’s office had a set game plan to get the asbestos taken care of and get the demolition of Man Hospital,” said Art Kirkendoll, W.Va. State Senator and former Logan County Commission president. “Once the people got in there, they found some additional asbestos that needs to be contained.”

Kirkendoll said plans are being made to have the asbestos removed.

“I think we can get back on track shortly and get this done,” said Kirkendoll. “It’s just going to cost more money.”

Kirkendoll said local and state officials are committed to completely razing the building.

“The county is committed to it and I know the governor’s office is committed to it,” said Kirkendoll. “We’ll probably end up spending another $150,000 to $200,000 than what we first anticipated, but it’s got a lot of asbestos and we want to make sure it is safe and proper.”

Kirkendoll said the property is now owned by the Logan County Development Authority and no plans have been made yet for development.

“No one has any plans for it right now,” Kirkendoll said. “I think if anything was ever done, hopefully it will be some additional health care. That would be my number one plan — to expand health care. But before we do anything, we will want to see what is pleasing to the residents of Man.”

Why does the state not give this area of land back too the American native,s,,They know that there are alot of remains still burried there. I saw some of them when Ron Moxley was there doing a dig. Which i thought was wrong. How would you like it if someone went and dug up your grandparents graves, and said we are just looking? Think about it people.
