LOGAN – Law enforcement answered one call this week to investigate the theft of change from a vehicle so the thief could buy diapers and another that involved a son who claims he grabbed and twisted his mother’s arm because she was hitting him in the head with a spoon. Criminal complaints filed in the Logan County Magistrates Court documented the two cases listed below.

• Joseph Aaron Garrett, 22, of Whitman, was arrested by WVSP Trooper S.A. Belt on Dec. 31, 2012, and charged with breaking and entering auto and petit larceny. Garrett is accused of breaking into a van belonging to Krystal Pauli and stealing a large amount of change. The officer located Garrett, who fit the description he was given, and performed an officer safety search. The officer found a large amount of change in the accused’s pocket. During questioning, the accused admitted to breaking into the van and stealing the money to buy diapers. Garrett was released under a $3,000 bond.

• James Griffin, 39, of Logan, was arrested by WVSP Trooper J.G. Honaker on Dec. 29 and charged with domestic assault and domestic battery. When Tpr. Honaker arrived, Betty Griffin told him her son James had been cursing at her, then grabbed and twisted her arm. The officer noted her arm was red. The accused said he grabbed her arm because she was hitting him in the head with a spoon. Griffin was released under $1,500 bond.
