CROOKED CREEK — After breaking for the summer the Gleaners Class of the Crooked Creek Church of Christ resumed their monthly meetings September 9, 2012. The ladies met in the fellowship hall of the church. Hostesses for the evening were Rosemary Adams, Gladys Vance and Diana Brewster.
Brenda Adams , president, conducted the meeting. Karen Dingess, secretary, read the minutes from the June meeting. Evelyn Adams made the motion that the minutes were correct as read and Shirley Ruggles seconded the motion. The financial report was given by Ruggles and offering was taken up.
Prayer for the meeting and the food was offered by Dingess.
The devotion for the meeting was given by Alfreda Burns. She read a poem entitled “What a Difference a Day Makes” in honor of 9/11/01. She gave a devotion on comparing sunflowers with the Christian life. She explained that sunflowers track the sun all day long, she asked wouldn’t it be nice as Christians that we could follow the Son all day long no matter what is going on in our life. She also told how sunflowers must be firmly planted in the soil so they do not topple over. The same is for a Christian, we need to be grounded in the Word of God so we do not let the worries of our life topple us over. She explained that one sunflower can have as many as 2000 seeds in one bloom and as Christians we need to sow seeds everywhere we go. Sunflowers also resemble the sun. Being like Christ is an essential part of the Christian life. We are to resemble the Son.
A fall revival will be held at the Crooked Creek Church of Christ October 14-19 at 7 every evening with Doug Hardman as the evangelist.
The ladies decided to once again make donations to the Goshen Project, which sends backpacks home on weekends with children who may not have food to eat on the weekends. Monthly collections of food items will be donated and a monetary donation will also be provided. Burns made the motion and Dingess seconded the motion.
The ladies will also provide treat boxes for college students in the month of October and discussed other projects they will take part in the upcoming months.
Those attending were Diana Brewster, Rosemary Adams, Shirley Ruggles, Karen Dingess, Evelyn Adams, Mary Jane and ALfreda Burns, Brenda Adams, Opal Bell, Sharon Lowe, Debbie Hall and Carolyn Mahon.
