Godby sentenced

An afternoon of arguments on May 17, 2011, ended with Delores Godby, 61, being shot by her husband Jerry Godby, 64, at their residence in Chapmanville.

Mr. Godby was charged first with malicious wounding, and then murder in the first degree after his wife died. Two months ago, Jerry Godby was found guilty of Voluntary Manslaughter.

Boone County Prosecutor Keith Randolph, attorney for the State of West Virginia, Godby and his attorney Brian Abraham appeared for sentencing on January 29, 2013, in Logan County Circuit Court by the Honorable Judge Roger Perry.

Godby was sentenced to the West Virginia Penitentiary for a period of six year, with credit for all time served — 194 days in jail and 109 days on home confinement, a total credit of 303 days.
