CHAPMANVILLE — October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is an annual campaign to increase awareness of the disease. According to www.breastcancer.org, about one in eight U.S. women, just under 12 percent, will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime.

To honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to bring breast cancer awareness to the area, the Coalfield Health Center on Airport Road will hang a Breast Cancer Awareness Wreath on Thursday, Oct. 4, at noon.

Dr. Jon Bowen, medical director for the center, will read a proclamation and Lori Ramey-Hayes, a breast cancer survivor, share a few words. Guests from state, county, and local governing bodies will be recognized for their support.

Guests will also have the opportunity to pin a pink ribbon in honor of themselves or someone else who may have struggled with breast cancer.
