HUNTINGTON — West Virginia veterans have an opportunity visit the WW II, Korean, Vietnam Wall, Iwo Jima, and FDR memorials in Washington, D.C, through a national program that has flown tens of thousands of veterans to the nation’s capital for such tours.

Honor Flight — a program founded in Springfield, Ohio in 2005 — pays tribute to America’s veterans for their service and sacrifices to this country by transporting them to Washington to see the memorials that were erected in their honor. To date, almost 100,000 Veterans have been transported from around the U.S.

Now, through a very generous donation, West Virginia veterans will have a chartered Honor Flight departing from Huntington on Saturday, May 11, 2013. The one-day flight will carry 149 Veterans , guardian assistants and medical personnel to Washington D.C. to tour the WW II, Korean, Vietnam Wall, Iwo Jima, and FDR memorials, before returning at 9 p.m. To find out more details about the inaugural West Virginia flight, contact Jane Julian at 740-451-0615 or janejulian22@aol.com.

WWII, Korean and Vietnam veterans may apply. First priority will be given to WWII veterans and terminally ill veterans from any conflict. The entire day, including food, is free for veterans. Accompanying the veterans will be adult guardian assistants who will help veterans. There is a tax-deductible fee of $250 to defray flight and meal expenses for the GAs.
