Former Logan High School basketball player Brandon Townsend was honored on Thursday night before the Logan-Tolsia game at Willie Akers Arena. Townsend, 34, a Logan player from 1994-96, was killed in a tragic coal mine accident on Feb. 6 in the Charleston area. Several of Townsend’s family members were on hand at the game and were given gifts by Logan coach Mark Hatcher and the Logan basketball family. Townsend’s framed No. 34 Logan basketball jersey was also given to the Townsend family. It was an emotional night at the field house as there was also a moment of silence for legendary Logan basketball coach Willie Akers, who remains hospitalized in Charleston after he fell to the floor at the Charleston Civic Center on Wednesday afternoon.
