Local man jailed on theft charge
Local lawmen made another robbery arrest.
Brandon Gregory Toney, 18, of Stollings, was arrested in Logan by Patrolman Mark Dickerson of the Logan Police Department for robbery on September 26.
Originally, Toney was charged with first degree robbery but a notation on the criminal complaint states it should be corrected to second degree robbery.
According to police reports, officers Dickerson, Kevin Conley and Aaron Newsome received notification from the Logan County 911 office that an alleged robbery suspect was being chased down Bridge Street by his victim.
Patrolman Dickerson was then flagged down by the victim who told him that the alleged thief had fled wearing a long white t-shirt with no writing on it, dark jeans with white stitching and that he had fuzz on his chin. The victim was escorted to the Logan Police Department where he gave a full description of the incident.
"He stated that he picked up the suspect, who identified himself as "Brandon Jackson" on Stratton Street near Cole Street," the report states adding that the two went to a residence on Stratton Street and watched a football game. About a half an hour later the young man went to the restroom and exited saying he wanted to leave and the victim said he would drive him.
"'Brandon' stated that he lived on Cole Street at the apartments with his brother," the report states. "Upon both exiting the residence...'Brandon' attempted to grab his (the victim's) wallet from his rear pocket at which time ....(the victim) attempted to stop him." The victim said the young man then "grabbed him and threw him to the ground causing injuries" to his left side. "At that time, 'Brandon' removed the wallet by force and ran north to the railroad tracks where he turned towards Charles Street." However, the victim then gave chase in his vehicle.
"After a short search of the area, officers Conley and Newsome located a white male matching the description on Chestnut Street, who was later identified as Brandon Toney. Toney was then transported to LPD for questioning, where he was advised of his Miranda Rights and refused to answer questions. "
At 10:35 p.m. Officer Dickerson called the victim asking for a description again and was told the suspect was "heavily tattooed." At that time, Toney was placed under arrest.
He was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 11:40 p.m.
In the past month, local police have made over a dozen arrests for theft and burglary related charges.
