NAUGATUCK — The Logan Lady Wildcats fell to the Tug Valley Lady Panthers last night in a tri-match with Sissonville at Tug Valley High School in Naugatuck.

The Lady Panthers lost to Sissonville in the first two sets, 15-25 and 19-25. Logan then beat Sissonville in two straight sets and then lost to Tug Valley, 25-23 and 25-19.

Logan Coach Ernistine Conn said she was disappointed in her team’s play.

“We played really well against Sissonville, but, against Tug Valley, it was like we were a totally different team,” Conn said. “Simple mistakes hurt us. They gave up and didn’t play as a team and killed themselves.”

Tug Valley Coach Vonda Preston said she was happy with the Lady Panthers’ win over Logan.

“Logan has a really good team,” Preston said. “We played a whole lot better against Logan than we did against Sissonville. We really played well against Logan. I think we’re finally coming together.”

The game was senior night for Tug Valley standouts Brooke Stevens and Karah Sheppard. The Lady Panthers coaches also honored Logan’s and Sissonville’s seniors at mid-court with a rose for each.

Logan returns to action Tuesday night at home against Tug Valley. The match will be Senior Night for Logan.

Westside 3, Burch 1

DELBARTON — The Burch Lady Bulldogs lost at home last night to Westside, 3-1.

Burch beat Westside in the opening set, 25-13, but then lost 18-25, 13-25 and 18-25 to lose the match.

In the junior varsity game, Burch won 25-12 and 25-14.

“We played really well in the first game,” Burch Coach Jan Cisco said. “They relaxed too much and didn’t play. We don’t have a lot of experience and we are now getting beaten by the teams we used to beat.”

The game was senior night for Burch standout Jamie Columbia, who was honored and joined on the court by her teammates, coaches and parents, Greg and Theresa Curry.

The Lady Bulldogs return to action Thursday night at Tolsia High School in Wayne County.
