GLENHAYES — The Tug Valley High School Lady Panthers saw their season come to an end Wednesday night as they were eliminated from the sectional volleyball tournament by the homestanding Tolsia Lady Rebels.
Tolsia won, 3-0, beating Tug Valley easily in the first and third sets, 25-9 and 25-8, respectively. The Lady Panthers put up a fight in the second set, tying the game twice and taking an 18-19 lead on Zana Watkins’ serve, but the Lady Rebels rallied and won the second set, 25-21.
The Class AA sectional was a single-elimination tournament.
Tug Valley Coach Vonda Preston was very disappointed in her team’s dismal performance.
“My girls didn’t want it bad enough,” Preston said. “If they had wanted it more, they could have won this match. We didn’t play good except in the second game. We came out and played pretty good then. I don’t know if we were nervous or what. I just don’t know what happened. They can play a lot better than they did.”
It was the last match for senior starters Karah Sheppard and Brooke Stevens.
Preston said she’s losing two good players to graduation.
“It will be hard to replace them,” she said.
Sheppard had eight kills, one ace and 11 digs in the match. Stevens finished with two digs and an ace.
Amber Hopkins served four aces and got four digs. Amy Hall had five digs, Cheyenne Baisden had three digs, Zana Watkins had two kills and Marissa Millum and Shawn Kiser each had a dig.
