DELBARTON — The Chapmanville Regional High School volleyball team beat Burch and Regional Christian School Monday night in a tri-match at Burch High School in Delbarton.

The Lady Tigers beat RCS 2-0 in the opening sets of the tri-match, then topped Burch 25-23 and 25-15 for the win.

“We were a little sluggish,” CRHS Coach Angie Willis said. “Two varsity players and my book keeper are all out sick. Kylie Clay stepped in and did a good job in her first varsity start. I thought she did a good job. She served 10 straight points and stepped up and did a good job. Overall, Alyssa Bailey played well. Hailey Price stepped in and did a good job for us. Jenna Vance and Lydia Vance did well.”

Chapmanville improves to 16-9 and returns home to face Logan County rival Man tonight.

RCS then beat Burch, 25-20, in the first set of its game with Burch, but the hosts rallied and won the next two, 25-13 and 25-22.

“We didn’t play to the best of our ability against Chapmanville,” RCS Coach Shannon Neace said. “I think we were a little lethargic. But, when we played Burch, I feel like we did a really good job. I’m pretty proud of my girls and I feel like they played their hearts out. Megan Hackney, Cassidy Starr and Candice Messer played really well.”

In the junior varsity game with RCS, Burch won, 15-8.

“We didn’t play well,” Burch Coach Jan Cisco said. “We didn’t come to play. They didn’t seem to be focused on either game. Against Chapmanville, we played okay the first game, but the second game we didn’t play well at all. There was too much standing and not enough moving. The Regional Christian School outmoved us in the first game. They moved to get the ball and put it back over, but our girls were standing. We didn’t focus until the last two games and then only very little. It comes down to us needing a dose of experience.”

The team will honor Jamie Columbia for Senior Night during tonight’s game against Westside at Burch.

Williamson 3, Matewan 1

MATEWAN — The Williamson Lady Wolves beat homestanding Matewan, 3-1, last night in the Tiger Dome.

Williamson Coach Tondra Elkins said her team played well in the win.

“We won the junior varsity game 2-0, then won 3-of-4 in the varsity game,” she said. “Matewan’s Whitney Horton beat us in the second game with her serves. She’s an awesome server. The fourth match we won 25-9. We finally got our serves right. Erica Craven served her arm out for us.She did a great job.”

The Lady Wolves finish the regular season at Gilbert tonight in a tri-match with Iaeger and Gilbert.
