Area police have continue to make an unusually high rate of burglary and theft related arrests for this time of the year according to law enforcement officers.
• Brian Bartram, 34, of Lyburn, was arrested on Oct. 20, in Logan County by West Virginia State Police Trooper J.D. Hensley for burglary and grand larceny on Oct. 20.
According to police reports, on Oct. 10, Bartram allegedly broke into the home of the victim and took several firearms.
Later the same day, this officer received information that the accused had been attempting to sell some stolen firearms in Madison Creek and that he was holding the firearms under an abandoned trailer beside his own trailer, the report states.
The officer was able to located the firearms that were under the abandoned trailer and three of the firearms were identified and returned to the victim, the report said.
Bartram was released on bond.
• Walter Wayne Wolford Jr., 23, of Man, was arrested in Logan County by WVSP Tpr. J.K. Harris for burglary, grand larceny and conspiracy on Oct. 17.
According to reports, on July 28, the victim said her home in Taplin was burglarized. The door had been kicked in and power tools, a DVD player, compound bow and other items were missing. The investigation disclosed two possible suspects — Elwood Mark Salyers and Walter Wayne Wolford Jr., the report said.
"On Aug. 1, this officer made contact with the accused who admitted he and Wolford broke into the house and stole the aforementioned items," the report states. "Salyers further provided information as to the location of the stolen property. On the same date this officer, Sgt. B.E Guthrie and Tpr. P.J. Dick recovered approximately $1,750.00 of the stolen property."
A warrant was issued for Wolford's arrest and he was taken into custody and booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 12:45 a.m.
• Michael Shane Lester, 32, of Holden, was arrested in Logan County by WVSP Tpr. E.B. McClung for breaking and entering and petit larceny on Oct. 20.
According to reports, on Oct. 20, Lester allegedly broke a window out of My Private Beach in Holden and was confronted by the night watchman.
"During the time the defendant was inside of said business, he stole a pack of cigarettes valued at $3.50," the report states.
Lester was booked at the regional jail at 4:35 p.m.
• Teddy Joe Justice, 35, of Mt. Gay, was arrested in Logan County by Chapmanville Patrolman D.J. Miller for petit larceny, destruction of property, obstructing an officer and driving on a revoked license on Oct. 20. According to reports on Oct. 19, "the officer observed (Justice) underneath a 1996 Chevy S-10 at the Chapmanville Park and Ride" the report states. The officer asked Justice what he was doing and reportedly saw him "taking a picking hammer to the gas tank of the victim's vehicle, with jugs catching the gas from the victim's gas tank”
The report said Justice said he was changing a tire.
Justice was reportedly uncooperative until he realized he was caught then admitted to what he was doing.
Justice was booked at the regional jail at 2:10 a.m.
• Todd Crum Jr., 19, of Stollings, was arrested in Logan County by WVSP Tpr. P.J. Dick for breaking and entering an auto, petit larceny and conspiracy on Oct. 15.
According to reports, on Sept. 16, Crum and a juvenile codefendant "did conspire to break in vehicles."
"The accused did break into four vehicles and steal various items valued at less than $1,000.," the report states. "Crum gave this officer a written statement admitting these acts."
Crum was booked at the regional jail at 2:10 p.m.
