Logan Middle, Man Middle still unbeaten

Eight and oh and still counting.

The Logan Middle School boys’ basketball team ran their record to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the Mid-Valley Conference with three recent wins.

Shakeil Cunningham scored 14 points to lead the Timberwolves past the Poca Dots 43-20 in Putnam County last Wednesday.

Logan then traveled to Chapmanville on Friday afternoon and came away with a victory over the rival Tigers as Justin Oney led the way with 10 points.

On Monday, Jan. 14, Logan Middle returned home for a much anticipated matchup with the Ripley Vikings. The T-Wolves came away with a resounding 58-38 victory to gain control of the conference and remain unbeaten.

Seth Hainer led Logan as he scored 16 points.

Nigel Wallace had 12 and Stevie Browning dropped in 11 as three T-Wolves scored in double figures.

Adam Mareske, Devin Murphy and Kaleel Reynolds rounded out the scoring as each had a two-point bucket.

Shane Vance, Matthew Southers and Joe Street also played but did not score as Coach Wyatt Scaggs substituted freely in the second half.

n The Logan Middle School JV team remained unbeaten also as they swept by Poca, Chapmanville and Ripley.

In the Ripley game, Logan won 46-30. Kaleel Reynolds led the way with 10 points. Plenty of scoring followed as C.J. Williams poured in eight points, Trent Dalton had six and Devin Washington, Zack Hatfield and Alex Lakatos scored four each. Johnny Morrison had three. A.J. Reynolds, Brandon Horne and T.J. Tomblin had a bucket each, while Shane Vance had one point.

LMS hits the road tonight to play at Hurricane. Logan returns home on Monday, Jan. 19 to take on Winfield.

Man 55, Harts 50

HARTS n The Man Middle School boys’ basketball team made it 6-0 on the season with a 55-50 win at Harts Tuesday night.

Jordan Simpson led the Pioneers with a double-double with 17 points and 11 assists.

Tommy Belcher added 10 points off the bench for Man.

Shane Browning pulled down 11 rebounds in the first half alone and had 16 total. He just missed a double-double as he had nine rebounds for the game.

Josh Booth followed with nine points and eight rebounds.

Rounding out the scoring was Jacob Riggins with five points, Drew Merritt with four and Mikey Vitruls with one.

Matt Cook paced Harts with a 26-point effort. Andy Bender had 10.

Man hits the hardwood again on Wednesday night at Van, then goes to Glen Fork on Thursday evening. On Friday, the Pioneers are at home against Chapmanville in a 1 p.m. contest.
