Logan golf team goes 6-1 in its last seven matches

The Logan High School golf team has been busy but successful, too, in the last two weeks.

In Logan’s last seven matches the Wildcats have went 6-1.

Back on Aug. 15, Logan went to Big Ben and defeated the Herbert Hoover Huskies by 26 strokes. The Wildcats shot a 142, while Hoover had a 168.

Eric Burnette had a 33 to lead Logan, while Sam Corns and J.C. Motes each had a 36. Chase Preston had a 37 and Nick McDonald a 38.

Then on Aug. 20, Logan won a three-team meet at the Logan Country Club in Chapmanville. The Wildcats had a 139 for the day, while Poca finished with a 144 and Chapmanville a 168.

Corns paced Logan with a 34. Motes, Preston and Burnette each had a 35. McDonald had a 36 and Madi Trent a 41.

On Aug. 21, the Logan JV golf team had a tri-match at the Riverview Country Club in Madison and also came out on top. Logan had a 172 score, while Chapmanville had a 188 and Sherman a 213.

Keith Williamson led the Logan JV’s with a 40. Alex Toler shot a 42, Zach Hanlon a 43 and Trent a 47. Colton Tomblin had a 49 and Emily Bryant had a 60.

The next day on Aug. 21, Logan traveled down Route 10 to the Triadelphia Country Club in Man for a five-team meet.

Logan came out on top again as the Wildcats had a 151. Chapmanville had a 174, Tug Valley and Man each had a 190 and Mingo Central brought up the rear with a 203.

Burnette led Logan with a 35. Corns had a 36, Preston a 38 and McDonald a 42.

Man was led by Bailey Beckwith and T.J. Williams, who each fired a 41.

Jacob Workman had a 40 to lead the Tigers.

Joe Deskins shot a 38 to lead Tug Valley.

Kyle Surber and Robby Harris each had a 50 to lead the Miners.

Then on Aug. 23, Logan went to the Kanawha Country Club and beat South Charleston by seven strokes, 168-175.

Corns again led the Wildcats as he had a 37 for the day. Burnette had a 39, McDonald a 44 and Preston a 48.

On Tuesday, Aug. 28, Logan traveled to Scarlet Oaks and were beaten by Poca by seven shots, 161-168.

Corns led the way again with a 39. Burnette had a 42, Motes a 43, Preston a 44 and McDonald a 46.

On Wednesday, Aug. 29, Logan returned home to the Logan Country Club and won over Scott and Tug Valley in a tri-match. Logan had a 139, while the Skyhawks were second with a 157 and the TVHS Panthers were a distant third with a 197.

This time, Logan was led by Burnette’s 33. Corns had a 34, while Motes and Preston each had a 36 and McDonald finished with a 37.

Alex Boggs led Scott with a 37.

Deskins paced Tug Valley with a 41.
