The Logan High School track and field team turned in a fine performance last week at the Class AAA Region 3 meet at Charleston’s Laidley Field.

David Toney won the regional championship in the shot put with a throw of 49 feet 6 inches. It’s the second straight year the senior has won the region title in the event.

Logan’s Jameson Copley was fourth in the long jump, while Zach Ellis was fifth in the discus.

The Logan 4x800 relay team also took sixth place. The squad was made up of Dustin Thompson, Tyler Dugan, Samuel Adkins and Hunter Napier.

“Our team did a great job and I am really proud of them,” Logan track and field coach Gary Mullins said. “David finished third in the states last year and were hoping he can improve on that and bring back a shot put state championship to Logan. He has worked really hard and deserves a state championship. This will be my last week coaching him and I will miss his work ethic and dedication.”
