The Logan High School softball team was upset 5-3 by Fairmont East on Friday at the Best of the Best Tournament in Buffalo.

The loss dropped Class AAA No. 4-ranked Logan to 7-2 on the season and ended the Lady Cats’ seven-game winning streak.

The tourney was cut short on Friday due to strong thunderstorms and rain.

Changes were made to the Best of the Best tourney schedule for Saturday’s action.

Due to weather concerns, four Class AAA games were postponed from Friday to Saturday.

As a result of the changes, the Class AA and Class A fields were reduced to a single-elimination format.

Chapmanville (8-1), which won two games last week in the Best of the Best tourney, was slated to play Liberty Raleigh on Saturday in the Class AA division Final Four round.

No. 2 Ritchie County, which lost 1-0 to Chapmanville last week in the Best of the Best, was set to take on No. 3 Scott in the other Class AA semifinal.

The two winners were set to meet in the 2A final.

In the Class A division, No. 1 Buffalo and No. 4 Clay-Battelle were slated to meet on Saturday with No. 2 seed Moorefield and No. 3 St. Marys set to play in the other semifinal.

Man, which had lost to both Buffalo and Clay-Battelle last week in Best of the Best tourney pool play, was eliminated.

In the Class AAA division, Lincoln County downed Nicholas County 10-1 on Friday. Cabell Midland blanked Hedgesville, 4-0, and Parkersburg South shut out University, 5-0.

Logan was scheduled to play Nicholas County on Saturday afternoon. In other Class AAA games: Parkersburg South was also set to play Hedgesville; East Fairmont was slated to play Lincoln County; and Cabell Midland was scheduled to take on University. The 3A single-elimination playoffs and the championship game were set to take place on Saturday night.
