HOLDEN, W.Va. — Michael Johnson, 57, of Holden, departed this life Monday, December 3, 2012, at his residence.

Born April 1, 1955, he was a son of Mrs. Henrietta Johnson, of Detroit, Mich., and the late Rev. Percy Johnson.

Besides his father, Michael was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; his brother, Percy Jr.; one niece, Whitney Nicole, and several aunts and uncles.

Michael was baptized at Sulphur Spring Baptist Church. He was a caring and giving person with a “huge heart” He was very good at carpentry and was referred to as a “Jack of all trades.” He will truly be missed by his family, whom he loved to be around. He was a disabled miner.

Additionally, those left to cherish his memory include two brothers, Jeff (Jena) Johnson of Bluefield, and Phillip (Tammy) Johnson of Ironton, Ohio; three sisters, Sandra Farr of Detroit, Patricia Johnson of Holden and Lydia Janeen Johnson of Asheboro, N.C.; several nieces, nephews and other extended family; special friend, Shirley Rankins, and a host of friends.

Services will be held at noon Saturday, December 8, at Sulphur Spring Missionary Baptist Church at Holden with Rev. Ronald Reynolds, assisted by Rev. Nathaniel Maynus, officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery at Pecks Mill.

Pallbearers will be nephews and friends and nieces and friends will serve as flower bearers. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Pond Funeral Home of Aracoma is in charge of arrangements.
