Editor,

I've been hearing rumors that the Department of Highways garage at Amherstdale may be closed. I hope for all our sakes this is not true. This coming winter will be tough if salt and gravel has to be trucked from Logan to treat our roads.

If this is true that the Buffalo Creek Garage is to be closed, then tell me why. If it's a money problem, why was all that taxpayer money given out to state employees for a bonus? Now, I've got a lot of friends that work for the state and I'm happy they received a windfall from the state, but I hate to see it come at the cost of badly needed DOH employees in our district.

Year round, local road maintenance is very important to the safety of everyone traveling local roads. With the increase in truck traffic on Buffalo Creek due to the new mines at Lorado, the local DOH crews are more important than ever. Our school children are transported on these roads too. We don't need to lose these very important road crews. Will the savings be enough to off-set driving large trucks from Logan to Man every day?

The employees at the Amherstdale DOH garage do a very good job treating our roads in the winter months. We already are treated much like "county stepchildren" when it comes to getting our fair shares, please don't slap us in the face again if this is in your plans.

It's bad enough we've lost our hospital due to politics, do we have to endure yet another bad political decision to save a few dollars. Everyone in the Man area needs to express their opinions on this matter. It's a shame we don't have a representative living in our district on the County Commission to speak for us.

Dosveedonya!
