The Christmas thieving season appears to be in full bloom and local police who have made numerous arrests on burglary and theft charges in recent weeks.
• Gerald Michael Frazier, 36, of Sabine, was arrested by Deputy J.A. Lyall of the Logan County Sheriff's Department for daytime burglary, and breaking and entering on Nov. 26. According to police reports the deputy responded to a call from Rum Junction about an alleged burglary, where the victim reportedly shot at the fleeing vehicle of the alleged burglar.
"The victim stated he watched the suspect open the door to his garage and go inside," the report states. "The victim then stated that he went inside the garage to confront the suspect. The victim then pointed a pistol at the suspect, who was standing between two vehicles. The victim stated he asked the suspect what he was doing and the suspect stated he was looking for oil for his truck. The victim stated he led the suspect out of the garage and then grabbed the suspect by the arm....the suspect jerked away and the victim hit him in the side of the head with the pistol."
Reportedly the victim fired a shot at the suspect's vehicle striking one of the tires as it fled away. A description of the vehicle was put out on the radio and the suspect was pulled over by the Man Police Department near Huff Junction and detained for arrest.
He was booked at the Southwestern Regional jail at Holden at 3:19 p.m.
• Tracy Lynn Fleming, 34, of Switzer, was arrested in Logan County by West Virginia State Police Trooper J.K. Harris for grand larceny and conspiracy on Dec. 12. She was booked at the regional jail at 10:40 p.m.
• Timothy Lee Meade, 48, of Switzer was arrested by Tpr. Harris for grand larceny and conspiracy on Dec. 12. He was booked at the regional jail at 10:40 p.m.
According to police reports the victim "reported her diamond ring was stolen at Logan Regional Medical Center by Tracy Lynn Fleming."
"She further advised she observed Fleming hand the ring to the accused, Timothy L. Meade. The accused admitted the same thing to the undersigned officer during questioning," the report states. A ring matching the description of the stolen item was recovered.
• Andrew Paul Williams, 26, of Mallory, was arrested in Logan County by Sgt. Dave Walls of the Man Police Department for petit larceny and transferring and receiving stolen property on Dec. 10. According to police reports on March 1, "the accused sold a Grell's Street Thunder Siren.....to a cooperative individual for $40."
"This item was the property of the Man Police Department and was returned to the Police Department by the cooperating individual," the report states. "This item was taken and sold while the accused was employed by the town of Man Police Department.
A second criminal complaint states that on Sept. 1, "the accused sold a code 3 police siren to a cooperative individual for $50," and that Williams allegedly told the buyer it had been given to him by the town's mayor. "Further investigation showed that it had not been given to him by the mayor and had been taken out of the vault without the mayor (Jim Blevin's) knowledge."
He was booked at the regional jail at 12:08 a.m.
• James Michael Smith, 22, of Robinette, was arrested in Logan County by West Virginia State Police Trooper T.D. Boggs for breaking and entering, grand larceny, destruction of property, trespassing and transferring and receiving stolen property on Dec. 3. According to police reports on Aug. 21, at 4 p.m. the trooper received a complaint from the victim about a burglary on his property.
"The defendant, James Smith, went to the property of the victim, destroying locks off the trailers and taking several items from the victim's property," the report states, adding that the information came from statements from witnesses and observations made by the officer.
He was booked at the regional jail at 11:10 p.m.
•Paul David Cantrell, 21, of Kistler, was arrested by Trooper G.W. Collins for daytime burglary and grand larceny on Nov. 26. According to police reports on Nov. 17, the officer received a complaint from the victim about a burglary.
"The victim advised that someone broke into an outbuilding and removed several tools valued at over $1,000." the report states. "During the course of this investigation this officer received enough information to believe the accused committed the act."
He was taken into custody and booked at the regional jail at 10:13 p.m.
• Joshua Aaron Ison, 30, of Logan, was arrested in Logan County by officers J.L. Sheppard and Aaron Newsome of the Logan Police Department for shoplifting, public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance on Dec. 5. According to police reports at 7:45 p.m. that day the officers responded to a shoplifting call from Walmart where Ison allegedly "selected several items from the store and concealed them on his person....then left the store without paying for the items. "
While speaking with Ison the officers "found him to have slurred speech and glassy, bloodshot eyes. The defendant was in possession of two pill bottles without a label on them." The pills in the bottle were identified as 16 Vicodin and 28 Xanaxes, both controlled substances.
He was booked at the regional jail at 9:40 p.m.
• Sabrina L. Burgess, 29, of Stollings, was arrested in Logan County by Patrolman Aaron Newsome of the Logan PD for shoplifting on Nov. 21.
According to police reports at 7 p.m. that day, Officer Newsome went to a shoplifting call at Walmart and spoke with store security who told him Burgess allegedly concealed an item on her person and left tried to leave the store.
"This officer then found two other items in the purse belonging to the accused," the report states.
She was booked at the regional jail at 9:02 p.m.
Both Burgess and Ison face $162.50 in court costs, not including fines for each charge.
• Michael Ray Richards, 45, of Romulus, was arrested in Logan County by West Virginia State Police Trooper S.M. Boyles for breaking and entering and grand larceny on Nov. 20. According to police reports on Oct. 28, the victim contacted the WVSP about a burglary.
"She informed this officer that she had arrived home and discovered that her kitchen table, jewelry and custom vehicle accessories had been stolen from her residence," the report states, noting that the items were valued at $2,180.00. "She then informed this officer that she received a call from the defendant in which he told her that he had entered her residence and stole the aforementioned items. She then stated the defendant told her that if she contacted the police, her life would be in danger. “A warrant was issued for his arrest on Nov. 2.
Richards was taken into custody and booked at the regional jail at Holden at 5:05 p.m.
• Lori Falon Stevenson, 27, of Chapmanville, was arrested by Deputy J.L. Mathis of the Logan County Sheriffs Department for petit larceny and capias on Nov. 19. According to police reports on Sept. 3, Stevenson allegedly went to the residence of the victim in Chapmanville and asked if she could have a drink of water and use the restroom.
"The victim and his wife allowed the defendant access to the restroom and after the defendant exited the residence, hey noticed that several items had been taken," the report states, naming the items as two compacts, toothpaste, hair gel and razors with a combined value of $48.
She was booked at the regional jail at 5:52 p.m.
• Malcolm Ray Meade Jr. , 21, of Verdunville, was arrested in Logan County by West Virginia State Police Trooper J.K. Harris for two counts of grand larceny (one in Lincoln County) on Nov. 2. According to police reports on Sept. 6, 2009, the victim reported that his 2005 Honda Rincon ATV was stolen from his home in Verdunville, after a witness "stated that the accused, Malcolm Ray Meade, had attempted to sell him the aforementioned ATV earlier the same day." "The witness further stated that Meade admitted to stealing the ATV to him."
The Honda was later located in a remote area....Meade was located and identified in the same location."
Meade was also charged with grand larceny by Tpr. J.D. Hensley.
Meade was arrested on Dec. 23, 2009 for violating a Domestic Violence Petition where he also allegedly stole a handgun. The officers found Meade at Harper's Street and located the handgun in the waist band of his pants, the report states.
