A handful of Logan County athletes were named last week to the all-state volleyball teams.
Heading the list is Man High School’s Summer Sword, who was voted captain of the Class A second-team by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.
Sword, a senior and three-sport standout at Man, signed recently to play collegiate softball at West Virginia State. She also plays basketball for the Lady Billies.
Man, which won more than 20 games this season and had its most successful season in 12 years, was also recognized by Mika McCoy, who was an honorable mention all-state selection.
The Lady Billies, coached by Orlando Washington, lost in the sectional tourney.
In Class AAA, Logan High School’s Aarron Ward was a special honorable mention pick, while Ronni Vance was named honorable mention all-state.
In Class AA, Chapmanville Regional High School’s Katelynn Hall was named special honorable mention. Alex Baisden was voted honorable mention all-state.
Emily Ohrn of Wirt County was the captain of the Class A all-state squad. Tug Valley’s Marissa Manns was named honorable mention.
Cassie Weaver, a senior from Cabell Midland, was the captain of the Class AAA first team.
The Class AA first-team captain was Lacee Porter, a senior from Oak Glen. Danielle Browning of Mingo Central was also recognized as a special honorable mention pick.
