PINEVILLE — Winless Omar and Pineville were playing for pride in Wednesday night’s second game of the District 2 Little League tourney at Pineville.

It was Omar which tasted victory with a 14-4, mercy-rule win over Pineville. The game was stopped in the fifth inning as the 10-run rule was invoked.

Jacob Vance was the starting and winning pitcher for Omar. He pitched 4-2/3 innings and allowed just three runs and three hits with 12 strikeouts and three walks. A.J. Grimmett hurled 1/3 of an inning.

Omar smacked out 16 hits in the blowout.

Browning went 4-for-4 with three doubles and five RBI. Grimmett was 3-for-4 with a solo home run.

Noah Mullins was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and two RBI. Mitchell Gordon went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Vance and Alex Crum added RBI singles for Omar.

Matthew Cox, Kate Willis and Chance Conn all singled. Willis also drew three walks.

Pineville led 1-0 after one-half inning before Omar plated four runs in the last half of the first. Grimmett’s homer in the second then made it 5-1.

Omar scored three runs in the fourth to lead 8-2. Omar then scored six in the last half of the fifth to end the game early.

Tanner Toler had two hits to lead Pineville.

In other Little League action on Wednesday, both the Man and Logan 9-10-year-old all-stars advanced to the upcoming state tournament at Tygarts Valley with wins on the final night of the 9-10 district tourney at Mullens.

Man beat Chapmanville 4-2 in one game, while Logan downed Pineville 7-1. No further information or statistics were reported to the Logan Banner as of presstime this morning.
