Police make drug arrests

It's been a busy fall for local law enforcement officers who have racked up drug related arrests in Logan County.

•Michael Dwayne Vance, 47, of Chapmanville, was arrested in Logan County by officers D.T. Bryant and D.A. Browning of the Chapmanville Police Department for prescription fraud on Nov. 11. According to police reports the officers were told that Vance allegedly called in a forged prescription for himself at an area pharmacy and was there to pick it up. Vance was detained by them for questioning.

"The defendant told us he was paid $50 to pick up the prescription which was for 30 Alprazolam one MG," the report states. "

He was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at 5:26 p.m.

•Adam Joe Keeney, 26, of Cyclone, was arrested in Logan County by Patrolman Mark Dickerson of the Logan Police Department for possession of a controlled substance, driving on a suspended license, DUI, and no insurance on Nov. 4. According to police reports Officer Dickerson was on patrol and saw a green Chevy Cavalier swerve and almost strike another vehicle. The car was pulled over by Officer J.R. Adkins and deputies Jason Mathis and Nick Booth near the state police bridge. The driver, Keeney, had expired insurance and was "nervous" and had "a white powder substance n and around the left nostril area." He reportedly failed the field sobriety tests.

"Upon officers asking what the substance was, Keeney stated he had snorted an OxyContin 80 mg, and that he had more stuffed in his underwear," the report states. "This officer retrieved a small Tylenol bottle from his underwear containing one and three quarters of OxyContin 80 mg pills along with a cut ink pen with a powder residue inside. At that time, officers asked Keeney if he had a valid prescription and Keeney stated 'no.' “Officers then learned Keeney's license was suspended.

He was booked at the regional jail at 9 p.m.

• Laura Ann George, 23, of Chauncey, was arrested in Logan County by Logan County Sheriff's Deputies B.D. Cobb and B.E. Ferrell for DUI causing injury, possession of a controlled substance, no insurance, improper tags and driving on a revoked license on Oct. 29. According to police reports the deputies received a call from 911 dispatch about an accident with injuries on Route 44 when George car reportedly rear ended another car, which then struck another vehicle. "The defendant was slow to respond to questions ...and was unsteady on her feet." When given standard field sobriety tests she failed them, the report adds.

"The defendant also admitted to Cpl. Ferrell that she was in possession of prescription medication," the report states. "A search of the defendant's purse revealed six Zanax (schedule IV) and one Loratab (Schedule III). No valid prescription or bottle was located. " Officers then found her drivers license was revoked and she could not produce a valid insurance card for the car. The passenger in the vehicle which was struck was transported to the hospital to evaluate injuries.

She was booked at the regional jail at 4:50 p.m.

•Cletis Ray Blankenship, 39, of Meador, was arrested in Logan County by West Virginia State Police Trooper J.T. Robinson for possession of a controlled substance, public intoxication and giving false information to an officer on Oct. 24. According to reports the officer allegedly observed Blankenship appearing to be intoxicated while seated in a chair outside an apartment building in Sarah Ann while investigating an unrelated matter and asked him if he had been drinking.

"The accused replied he had been drinking Wild Turkey liquor outside the apartments," the report states. "This officer then asked the accused if he had any drugs or weapons on him, to which he replied 'no.' Upon conducting a Terry frisk for officer safety this officer then discovered a ziplock bag with eight and a half loratabs and one Xanax as well as a pocket knife."

He was booked at the regional jail at 4:30 a.m.

• Christopher Scott Brammer, 38, of Logan, was arrested in Logan County by Tpr. J.K. Harris of the WVSP for possession of a controlled substance, DUI, failure to maintain control and leaving the scene of an accident on Oct. 21. According to police reports the officer responded to a two vehicle accident on County Route 18 near Diamond Hill Road and found Brammer allegedly "un-steady while standing" with bloodshot eyes and slurred speech. Brammer told the officer he was driving a red Chevy Silverado "then advised this officer he was under the influence of methadone and Xanax. " The truck had crossed the double center line and struck another vehicle in the northbound lane. "Further investigation revealed Brammer and his female passenger attempted to conceal hypodermic/needles and syringes prior to the arrival of the undersigned officer. Additionally Brammer approached a witness and asked how to flea from the area as he attempted to conceal his vehicle. While attempting to locate insurance and vehicle information the undersigned officer discovered three hydrocodone pain pills in the glove compartment of the vehicle."

He was booked at the regional jail at 6:45 p.m.
