Local police have also made drug related arrests in recent weeks according to law enforcement reports.
• Gino Anthony Pansera, 24, of Whitman, was arrested in Logan County by Logan City Patrolman Mark Dickerson for possession of a controlled substance and DUI on Nov. 8.
According to police reports, the officer was running a radar check on State Route 10 on the boulevard when he saw a white Cadillac allegedly speeding, swerving and weaving and pulled over the driver, identified as Gino Pansera.
"Upon speaking with him, this officer smelled the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and burnt marijuana emitting from the vehicle," the report states, adding that Pansera had "slurred speech and glassy, red eyes."
"At that time, this officer asked Pansera to step out of the vehicle," the report states, adding that Pansera allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol at a local night club and smoking marijuana earlier in the day, but said nothing would be found in the car.
"Upon a search of Pansera's person, this officer located two rolling papers and asked if there was anything inside the vehicle I needed to know about," the report continues.
"Pansera then stated there was a bag of ‘weed’ over the driver's side sun visor. This officer then recovered a baggy of the green leafy bud-type substance which field tested postive. Sgt. D.A. White then located a 'blunt' inside a cigar tube in the sunglass compartment, within reach of both Pansera and a passenger, William "Bill" Leslie Toler II. The passenger was cited then released. The officer then transported Pansera to the Logan Police Department where tests were conducted and (he) failed. Pansera was then transported to Logan Regional Medical Center for a blood draw."
Pansera was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 4:50 a.m.
• Larry Dale Johnson, 54, of Binson Fork, was arrested in Logan County by Patrolmen J.L. Sheppard and Aaron Newsome of the Logan PD for posession of a controlled substance and shoplifting on Oct. 24.
According to police reports, the officers responded to a shoplifting call at Walmart and spoke with members of the store's security office who told them that two people allegedly took winter coats from the store and that one, Christopher Cassell had been detained.
"Mr. Cassell stated that himself and Larry Johnson did take two winter coats from the store without paying for them," the report states. "He further stated that Mr. Johnson took one of the coats to his vehicle. Patrolman Newsome then went to the vehicle and retrieved the stolen coat. While there, Patrolman Newsome came in contact with Mr. Johnson at the rear of Mr. Cassell's vehicle. Patrolman Newsome then found Mr.Johnson to be in posession of several controlled substances inside a pill bottle without a label including eight Tylenol 3s, four Tylenol 4s, 12 xanax 1mg, and one Klonopin 0.5mg. Mr. Johnson was also found in possession of another bottle of xanax belonging to another individual. The prescription was filled by Mr. Johnson on that date at Walmart and only contained 17 pills out of 60.”
Johnson was booked at the regional jail at 6:50 p.m. Cassell was presumably released on bond at arraignment.
• Jessica Lea Buckner, 26, of Turtle Creek, was arrested in Logan County by patrolmen J.L. Sheppard and Aaron Newsome for shoplifting, public intoxication and obstructing an officer on Oct. 24.
According to police reports, the officers responded to a shoplifting complaint about two other individuals — Cassell and Johnson.
"While processing the two unrelated shoplifters, these officers were notified by Walmart that Buckner had been caught shoplifting as well," the report states.
"The defendant selected several items from the store and concealed them in her purse. She then went into a dressing room and put on a pair of pants and a shit that wasn't paid for over the top of her original clothing and left he store without paying for any of the items taken.
The items were worth $63 and the officers reported that Buckner had slurred speech and glassy bloodshot eyes, was “unsteady on her feet" and "staggering while walking."
Buckner was booked at the regional jail at 6:50 p.m.
