Monday, April 27, through Friday, May 1, was designated as "Prom Promise Prevention Week" at Logan High School.

Nationwide Insurance Agent Kelli Wooten-Willis sponsored this year's event for Logan High in cooperation with Logan County Drug-Free Schools coordinator, Bea Orr.

The Prom Promise Prevention Campaign is a way to encourage the student body, especially the junior and senior classes, to have a safe prom season. The activities of the week promoted a drug and alcohol-free prom night. There were posters hanging throughout the school to remind students of the importance of the event. Each morning, during the TV announcements, the student body was urged to have a great time at the prom without getting high on chemical substance.

Gaylock Wrecker Service displayed two wrecked cars on the front lawn of Logan High as a reminder of what could happen if young people did not use common sense while driving. On Thursday morning an assembly was held in the school's Little Theater for the junior and senior classes.

The Prom Promise Prevention Committee consists of students that are members of the Teens Against Alcohol and Drugs (TAAD) organization. During the Prom Promise Prevention assemble Resource Officer David Adkins showed a video that gave a powerful message on the dangers of using alcohol and drugs while driving especially on prom night. At the conclusion of the meeting, the students were asked to sign the Prom Promise Prevention Pledge, stating that they would remain drug and alcohol free on prom night. The Prom Promise Prevention Pledge Poster was on display at the prom as a reminder of the vow that the students took. The Prom Promise Poster was created by the LHS Art Department, where Peggy Hensley is the instructor.

Logan High School has a student body that is very conscientious of the dangers of drugs and alcohol use because of such businesses as the Kelli Willis-Wooten Nationwide Insurance Agency.

The following students were on the Prom Promise Prevention Committee this year: Erin Hensley, Chadd Gartin, Whitney Horne, Rebakah Bevins, Autumn Grove, Justin Simpkins, David Burgess, Taylor Daughtery, Michael Charles, Gabrielle Ramirez, Sarah Gibson, Kari Back, Kaci Copley, Jodi Mileto, Jaclyn Hobbs, Corey Jones, Jennifer Mileto and Alysa Porter. The advising teacher was John E. Godby.
