CHARLESTON (AP) — Volunteers have until Sept. 14 to register for West Virginia’s Adopt-A-Highway Fall Statewide Cleanup.

The annual cleanup is set for Sept. 29.

The program is co-sponsored by the Department of Environmental Protection and the Division of Highways. Individuals, families, churches, businesses, schools, civic organizations, government agencies and communities may register to pick up trash on almost any state-maintained road. Private roads and interstate highways cannot be adopted.

The Charleston Gazette reports that the program provides garbage bags, work gloves and safety vests to volunteers, who must be at least 12 years old.
