TROY BROWNING JR.
VERNER, W.Va. — Troy Browning Jr., 80, known to many as “Uncle Junior,” of Verner, passed away Monday, September 10, 2012, at Logan Regional Medical Center.
Born May 15, 1932, at Verner, he was a son of the late Troy and Chole Browning Browning. Also preceding him in death was a son, Phillip Browning; one daughter, Pamela Nugent Fields; six brothers: Hestle, Clayton, Hersey, Hurley Marvin and Tracy Browning; two infant sisters, and one son-in-law, Steve Nugent
Troy was a coal miner employed with Eagle Mining at Kistler, Powellton Coal Company at Rock House and Rich Creek Coal Company for 27 years, working as an electrician, and owner/operator of Christie’s Exxon at Verner and Troy Construction and Sewer Systems. He was married to Lorene Nester Browning. Lorene and Troy were married on December 23, 1950. On February 11, 1948 Troy and Lorene had their first date with Marvin and Mamie. Troy and Lorene have celebrated this occasion for many, many years. He was a 1950 Graduate of Gilbert High School where he played basketball; was born again in 1969 and a member of the Verner Community Church and a member of UMWA local 8217. He enjoyed watching WV Mountaineers football and basketball, and the Cincinnati Reds baseball. The most important part of all he loved to sing, read his Bible, testify to others about the Lord and to spend time with his wonderful family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of 61 and one-half years, Lorene Nester Browning; daughter, Christie (Rocky) Conley of Crown; son-in-law, Roger Fields of Delbarton; brother, Segal Browning of Verner; three grandchildren: Sandie (Waymon) Hall of Morganton, N.C., Denise (Jeff) Browning of Wharncliffe and Anthony (Kristen) Browning of Lansing, Mich.; five great-grandchildren: Erica, Savannah, Olivia, Dylan and Makenzie; many nieces and nephews and a host of other dear relatives and friends.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 14, at the Verner Community Church with Rev. Rodney Robinette, Rev. Karen Frye and Sister Peggy Ryder officiating. Burial will follow in the Troy Browning Sr. Family Cemetery at Verner.
Friends may gather with the family after 6 p.m. Thursday at the church where a special service will begin at 7 p.m.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be Segal Browning, Donald Browning, Butch Browning, Rocky Conley, Jeff Browning and Waymon Hall.
