Task force makes more drug busts in Logan County

Area law enforcement officers made more drug arrests in recent weeks.

•Amber Nicole White, 23, of Omar, was arrested in Logan County by the US 119 Drug and Violent Crime Task Force for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance on Dec. 17. According to police reports on Sept. 9, 2009 White allegedly "did deliver crack-cocaine to an undercover officer in exchange for $20.00 in US currency. The transaction did take place in Cora." A warrant was issued for her arrest and she was taken into custody and booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 5 p.m.

•Melvin Allen Smith, 29, of Mt. Gay, was arrested by the Task Force for possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance on Dec. 15. According to reports on Sept. 23, 2009, the officers received a tip "stating the accused was growing marijuana behind his mobile home," and received consent to search the area and advised Smith of the allegations. "The accused advised he had two marijuana plants growing behind his residence," the report states, adding the officers received an audio confession.

He was reportedly released on bond.

•Michael Irwin Adams, 54, of Whitman, was arrested by the Task Force on Dec. 14 for delivery of a controlled substance. According to reports on June 19, 2009, Adams alleged "sold two OxyContin 60 mg tablets to a confidential informant for $230. in United States currency," from his home on Whitman Creek. Another criminal complaint states that on June 12, Adams allegedly sold two OxyContin 60mg tablets and one Oxycodone tablet to an informant for $195.

He was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at 7 p.m.

•Brandon Keith Hatfield, 23, of Harts, was arrested by West Virginia State Police Troopers P.A. Jones and R.G. Flippen for possession of a controlled substance and DUI on Nov. 20.

According to police reports the officers allegedly saw an individual tossing a beer can out the window of a 1994 Chevy S-10 and pulled it over. When they spoke with the driver they noticed the smell of alcohol coming from within the vehicle and noted the driver was "unsteady and staggering" when he exited the truck. Hatfield reportedly failed all three standard field sobriety tests and blew a .131 on the intoxalyzer. "The accused also had a pain pill in his possession," the report adds.

He was booked at the regional jail at 10:40 p.m.

•George Christopher Hill, 30, of Cora, was arrested by officers Aaron Newsome and J. Sheppard of the Logan Police Department for possession of a controlled substance, DUI and obstructing on Nov. 29. According to police reports the officer pulled over a maroon Hyndai on Route 10 after observing it cross the center line "several times." The officer allegedly smelled alcohol coming from the driver, who was "unsteady on his feet," and failed two field sobriety tests.

"upon a search of the vehicle, officer Sheppard did find a clear bag in the center console containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, which did later field test positive for THC content," the report states." Officer Sheppard did also find two mostly burnt marijuana cigarettes in an open ash tray."

He was booked at the regional jail at 6:20 p.m.

•Angel Dawn Gore, 35, of Chapmanville, was arrested by Tpr. Hensley for possession of a controlled substance and permitting DUI on Nov. 21. According to reports Gore allegedly told officers her boyfriend drank five to six beers at her trailer and drove to where the police pulled them over. She was also "found to be in possession of a snorting straw which she, the accused, advised had Hydrocodone residue within.'

She was booked at the regional jail at 12:05 a.m.

• Joshua Daniel Marian, 22, of Aflex, Ky., was arrested by Tpr. E.B. McClung for uttering (prescription fraud) and conspiracy on Nov. 18. According to police reports the officer took a complaint from a local pharmacy about two forged prescriptions.

"It was discovered...that the two prescriptions were in fact forged and had not been written by the doctor," the report states. "While en route to pick up the two prescriptions the undersigned officer was notified that the defendant was at the pharmacy trying to pick up the two prescriptions, one for Xanax and one for Loratab. Upon arrival the undersigned officer spoke with the defendant and determined that he in fact had uttered the two prescriptions and had conspired with ...(another individual) regarding the whole transaction."

He was booked at the regional jail at 7:52 p.m.

•Loretta Rauze Corns, 39, of Whitman, was arrested by Patrolman J.L. Sheppard of the Logan Police Department for four counts of possession of a controlled substance on Dec. 9.

According to police reports at 3:15 a.m. the officer was dispatched to Walmart about a shoplifting complaint and when he asked Corns if she had anything in her purse she allegedly told him she had some prescription medication that was not in the right bottles.

"This officer then asked her if the medicine was a controlled substance," the report states. "She stated she had some Loratab and Xanax and some of the medication belonged to her father. This officer recovered two medicine bottles filled with pills. One bottle contained one and one half 7.5 mg Loratabs, two 10 mg Loratabs, two 1 mg Xanax and two .5mg Xanax. The second bottle contained six 7.5 mg Loratabs, ten 10 mg Loratabs and five .5 mg Xanax, a pill crusher and a straw with a white powdery substance was also recovered.

She was booked at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden at 5:30 a.m.

•Jessica Marie Adkins, 22, of Cyclone, was arrested by Sgt. W.D. Walls of the Man Police Department for possession of a controlled substance on Dec. 11. She was booked at the regional jail at 5:54 a.m.

According to police reports Walls pulled over a 1988 Buick and spoke with Adkins, the passenger, asking her if she had any controlled substances.

"She stated that she had her prescribed Loratabs," the report states, noting they were in the wrong container, a Prevacid bottle, which had another name on it. Adkins told the officer she did not wish to carry all of her pills with her. At magistrate court, she was able to provide a valid prescription for the pills. Magistrate Dwight Williamson told her by law she had to carry the pills in the proper prescription container. She was released on bond.

•Chad Allen Bailey, 28, of Cyclone, was arrested by Officer Walls for DUI on a controlled substance, petit larceny and no insurance on Dec. 11. Bailey was the driver of the vehicle and according to police reports he allegedly "appeared to be intoxicated" when he walked into the 7-11. When he left he was pulled over for failing to use a turn signal. A license plate check came back saying the plates on the car were stolen and the vehicle had no registration or insurance. Bailey reportedly failed standard field sobriety tests.

Bailey allegedly told Walls he was prescribed Loratabs "and had taken approximately five today." The tags on the vehicle were reportedly stolen from a vehicle at the Fountain Place Mall.

He was booked at the regional jail at 5:54 a.m. Magistrate Dwight Williamson also found an old Petit Larceny charge on Bailey from 2007 about alleged misuse of a borrowed credit card. Bond was set at $3,500.

For those that were busted selling pills, I think that it would only make sense if their doctors were informed. Apparently they have been given way too much medication since they have extra to sell! I would also hope that after the doctors get this news they will see fit to sever ties with the patient.

I see that we have someone who was selling it out of their house. He lives in a nice home too. Will this be up for auction anytime soon?
