CLEAR FORK – The Logan High School girls’ basketball team gave Westside a game on Thursday night.
But in the end it was Logan’s turnover bug which came back to bite the team as the Lady Cats lost 71-59 on the road and fell to 0-4 on the season.
“What killed us is that we just had too many turnovers,” Logan coach Tim Cunningham said. “We tried to fix that situation. We called some timeouts because we were too excited. We’re averaging 30 turnovers a game and if we could’ve cut those down we could have been right in the ballgame and we could have possibly won it.”
Erica Kelley led the Lady Cats with a 20-point effort.
Jessica Bias and Brianna Johnson each broke into double digits in scoring with 16 and 14 points respectively.
Jenna Kimbler and Hannah Tothe had four points each.
Katie Chryssofos had two and Faydra Martin one point.
Cheyenna Lusk led Westside with 24 points. Tori Patrick had 22 and Kyleisha Kirkendoll 10.
The Lady Renegades led Logan 16-7 after one quarter, 37-29 at the half and 52-39 at the end of three.
Logan was scheduled to host Wayne on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the home opener at Logan High School’s Willie Akers Arena, however, the game was already cancelled on Friday due to expected bad weather and moved to Jan. 2.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning beginning at 7 p.m. tonight.
Four to six inches of snow is expected tonight with an additional two to four inches in the forecast on Saturday. Also cancelled was the Logan wrestling team’s meet on Saturday at Lincoln County.
