CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The West Virginia State Museum is commemorating the state’s 150th birthday with a special sesquicentennial exhibit.
Officials say the exhibit, called “West Virginia 150,” is set to open Jan. 31 at the Culture Center in Charleston.
The exhibit highlights 150 people, places and events that helped to shape the lives of West Virginians over the past 150 years.
Museum Director Charles Morris says West Virginia has such a rich and interesting history that it was difficult to narrow the exhibit down to 150 items.
The exhibit’s artifacts tell stories about the state’s steel, coal, glass, timber and railroad industries as well as notable West Virginians like author Pearl S. Buck, pepperoni roll inventor Guiseppe Argiro, and former Secretary of State Cyrus Vance.
