The Billies fell to 5-6 on the season.
Big man Josh Booth got the center start for the Hillbillies and pulled down 11 rebounds in his first game back with the team.
“We played with them for two and half quarters,” Man coach Harvey Arms said. “We cut it to six points there in the start of the fourth period, then we got a little tired and made some mistakes and rushed offensively and that hurt us.”
Man took a 3-2 lead on a 3-pointer by senior Seth Hainer with 5:58 to go.
Dustin Tilley later had a fast break layup and then a reverse layup off the glass to give the Class AA Renegades a 10-5 advantage with 4:21 on the first period clock.
Kaleb Spurlock got an offensive stickback and Jordan Simpson hit a trey to tie the game up at 10-10.
Levi Lambert gave Westside a 15-14 lead at the two-minute mark.
Man scored the final two baskets by Hainer and Simpson to take a 18-15 lead after the first stanza.
Hainer then gave MHS a 20-15 lead to open the second quarter.
The Renegades then went on a 6-0 run to get the lead back at 21-20. The big play a trey by Corey Bowles with 5:48 to play.
The Renegades pushed their cushion to six points at 33-27 with 1:45 to go.
Simpson later hit 3-of-4 charity tosses to cut the Renegades’ lead to 34-31at the half.
Westside’s Dustin Tilley then scored the first points of the second half to give WHS a 36-31 lead.
Coach Arms then called a timeout as the Billies were not moving the ball. The Renegades took their biggest lead at seven points after the Billies’ timeout on a jumper by Bowles to make it 38-31 at the six-minute mark. Westside extended its lead to 12 points with 4:01 on the clock. Bowles hit a 3-ball and Dylan Newsome had a fast break layup off the glass, forcing Arms into yet another timeout as Westside went on a 11-2 run.
Man cut the deficit back to seven points on a steal and layup by Shane Browning. Simpson then drilled a 3-pointer.
But it was Bowles who hit the final shot of the period to give the Renegades a 49-40 lead heading into the final quarter.
The Billies battled back to cut the deficit to six points on a three-point play by Hainer to make it 50-44 with 6:54 left in the game.
Westside then went on a 5-0 run to push the lead back to 11 points at 55-44 with 5:37 left as Bowles drained another 3 and Justin Tilley hit two free throws.
Westside took over the game and built a commanding 16-point lead at the 4:20 mark on a 3-pointer by Newsome to make it 60-44 The Renegades built a 19-point lead with 66-47 remaining on a fast break layup by Newsome.
Levi Lambert then gave WHS a 20-point lead on a fasbreak layup as the Billies ran out of gas and had no answer for the Wyoming County five.
Simpson led Man with 23 points. Hainer tossed in 20 and Clay Brumfield four, while Spurlock, Browning and Booth had two each. Dakota Toth had one point.
Bowles took game-high honors with 23 points including four 3-pointers to lead the Renegades.
Dylan Newsome netted 14 and Lambert also hit double digits with 12.
The Tilley twins Dustin and Justin tallied eight points each. Justin Cogar had three. Jason Scarlet and Kyle Midkiff had one point each.
Westside outrebounded Man 42-30. Man was 18-for-26 from the free throw line. Westside was 11-for-23.
The Renegades improved to 8-3 on the season with the win.
Man is scheduled to return to action next Saturday on the road at Fayetteville.
Westside will entertain the Logan Wildcats on Friday.
n In girls’ action on Friday night, the Man Lady Billies went to Hannan and won 63-18 to sweep the season series.
The Lady Billies (8-4) have won three out of their last four and are slated to host River View on Wednesday and then Mount View next Friday before going to Logan on Jan. 30 for a 1 p.m. contest.
